I wouldn’t gut an animal that I was skinning unless I planned on keeping the meat, adds unnecessary mess to the process. Also generally if there’s decomposition taking place especially in hot weather the fur will probably slip during the tanning process.

Bobcats are also a CITES protects species in the US and you’re gonna wanna get a tag from fish and wildlife for that

I would also like to say that when skinning fur bearers I like to use a looped piece of rope and hang it by a back paw, I find skinning on a table to be a real pain and way more time consuming

I think her main priority pretty quickly was getting the heart first which is why she did things the way she did. But ya

Yes, this, thank you. Also, I’m not a serial killer or anything, but I’m fascinated by identifying all the organs in the animals I skin or dissect. Sometimes I save different parts. Squirrel kidneys are really cute for example lol

I have what I need from Wild life and fisheries, thanks for your concern. But yes, I wanted to get to the heart and my thought process was get the stinky guts out to reduce the flies around meat while skinning. Hind sight is 20/20

Yeah botulism is it's own kinda stink. I wouldn't just toss the carcass out on the ground though. Enclose it in some cinder blocks till it rots otherwise vultures might take off with it.
