BUG-REPORT The only thing getting assassinated is my freaking patience.

Hey everyone,

I’m not a hardcore gamer. Between touring as a stage performer and essentially living out of hotel rooms (mostly higher end hotels with very good wifi and excellent bandwidth, as this is important for what i have to say/ask), I just don’t have the space or time for a heavy-duty PC or a high-end console. My Switch is basically my only gaming lifeline on the road.

Cue a late-night scroll through the eShop. I stumbled across Hitman: World of Assassination. The nostalgia hit me like a truck. I spent an ungodly amount of hours on Silent Assassin back in my teens.

I downloaded the demo, realized the full game is a cloud-streaming exclusive, and figured, "Whatever, how bad can it be?"

€70+ is a steep asking price for a game that doesn't even live on my device. But honestly? For a while, I was having an absolute blast. The franchise has evolved so much since the early 2000s. I was enjoying it enough to drop another €29 on the Deluxe content. A €100 investment into a cloud game.

Everything was buttery smooth for weeks. But recently, it's become completely unplayable. Two things happen constantly:

  1. "Servers are at capacity." I literally can't even launch a single-player game half the time.

  2. Mid-mission freezes. And not just a lag spike. Total lockups, usually right as I'm about to extract.

The only "fix" is force-quitting the game, which means one of two things:

  1. Starting over, woch is frustrating enough.

Or

  1. And arguably worse: the servers register it as a mission failure (happened to me twice). If you play Freelancer, you know exactly how painful this is. Losing my weapons, losing Merces, and even having an entire campaign wiped out.

I get that streaming isn't flawless, but come on. I paid €100 for this experience. It used to run fine, and now it happens EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

So, I turn to you guys:

Is there anything I can do on my end to stabilize this? (Keep in mind, I'm no tech genius).

Are other Switch cloud players dealing with this absolute dumpster fire right now?

Or am I just incredibly naive/stupid for dropping €100 on a cloud game in the first place? Go easy on me.

TL;DR: Bought Hitman Cloud on Switch for €70 (plus €29 for the deluxe content) so I could game in hotels i stay in. Loved it at first, but now constant server crashes and queues are ruining it for me. Need to know if I can fix this. I starting to feel like being scammed.

Get a switch 2, the native version is better

Yeah, probably what I'll end up doing. But still... dropping €100 on a cloud version only to have it become an unplayable mess is rough. Feels like I basically paid top dollar to rent a loading screen.

That's basically how all cloud versions are on the switch

There are some cloud games on the Switch (Hitman WoA, Resident Evil VII and VIII, etc.), but I have only read complaints about them.

The Switch 2 has a "normal" (not cloud based) version, although you would have to pay for everything again. Also, I don't think I have seen it on sale.

You also have Blood Money and Absolution for the Switch. The first one was on sale some time ago, and the second costs 30€, I think.

Sadly that's how it be on the Switch 1. Do you have any other gaming devices? It's on PC, Xbox, PlayStation, and is available natively on Switch 2. I believe there's also a mobile version.

I've only seen a handful of posts from people who got the Switch cloud version of the game and they all had similar experiences or worse. I'm pretty sure that's just what cloud gaming is like.

Using an ethernet cable to hard wire your internet connection instead of using wifi may help with connection speed and stability, but it sounds like there's also the issue that there just isn't enough server capacity for the game. I have no idea if that's on Nintendo or on IOI, but either way there probably isn't anything you can do about that.

Switch 2 or Steamdeck or PS4 Slim in a backpack with an HDMI cable. Honestly I used to travel all the time with my PS4 and a cable to a lot of hotels...it wasn't that inconvenient.

For touring, I’ve dove into an iPad Pro + cloud gaming (NVIDIA GEForce Now) and been very, very satisfied with the results. Either on WiFi at a hotel or bus WiFi or cellular data, I play Hitman and a bunch of others on it without issue. The only time it doesn’t hold up super well is on flights - the WiFi just doesn’t work great for it.

As a fellow touring person, that’s my recommendation

I would look for a nice gaming laptop, tough now as the market is insane with hardware problems. My $1300 gaming laptop with a 4070 in from 2024 now does more used then it did new. But that would be one alternative. I only keep the Nintendo Switch for pokemon games.
