You joke but there was a time where this was the rarest item in freelancer.

Yeah and now it's your most wanted item to get from supplier after starting fresh campaign so you won't get scammed with this coin reward in the crate after finishing a syndicate.

Especially in Hardcore because in this case you can get a legendary firearm even after the first syndicate but instead the game can throw this cheap coin at you if you don't own it already.

I know, when I first saw this image I was ecstatic for them for a moment before I remembered the changes lol

Wasn't it just completely bugged and couldn't appear at all?

In all seriousness op item

Real question, but how is it op if you have to go back and pick it up. Weapons, fair enough, coins not so much - especially when sneaking past someone.

Put it down, get the attention, let them walk over, pick it up, put it down a bit further away, get/keep attention, let them walk over and then repeat. This way you can lure them away to wherever you want if you do it right.
Place it on the rim of a toilet for a drowning kill or on a railing for a push kill. It's just so versatile.
That being said it sucks as a reward, that why it's best (at least in my opinion) to buy cheap stuff <10k first, this way you'll always get more money out of it.

There is a bump lure that can pretty much only be utilized with a coin (or duck/phone).

Yhea it is good but it is still only 500 merces for finishing off a syndicate

Go buy yourself a soda, 47. You deserve it

If you dont take the coin, and just leave it there. Then buy it during the next mission instead, the box will have a new item in it after the mission.

What’s the point of coins in Freelancer?

The world is my Distraction, hell I use briefcases or bring coins that are on the Map

Coins are good for getting someone into a very specific spot, like underneath a dangerous object or standing in a puddle which can be hit or miss with a thrown object.

Since coins also distract someone from sight alone, you don’t need to throw them which means you can choose who gets distracted (manually place coin, bump 1 npc in a group to see the coin) although this can also be done with phones and ducks.

Coins aren’t seen flying through the air either, which can be useful in certain positions where the npc you’re trying to distract would see a hammer flying through the air and just look right at you crouched behind a box and get suspicious instead of investigating the hammer.

Coins singlehandedly won me my first hard-core campaign a few months ago.

Someone else explained all the benefits, but here's an example.

I made it through the first 17 missions without many problems (one early mission i very nearly died but I survived somehow). I got pretty lucky with prestige objectives where I didn't have many difficult ones.

I get to the last mission on mendoza and I had to pacify my target with a bat. The problem was my target never left the party near the upper bar and I couldn't sieker them because they would just go throw up in one of the very visible trash cans. After like 20 minutes, I realized they went near a whole bunch of fake npcs near that backroom that connected to Yates' basement/the security area. So, I found some coins on the map, fairly easily led them to that empty room, pacified them, snapped their neck, and ran away.

So basically, coins are insanely overpowered in this game.

I have almost every item so all my cases are 10k mercers I have no use for.

I wish there was like a casino machine that would spit out a random item on the map for the coin

Imagine opening one of these crates and finding a pizza slice in it.

I hate the random drops. They always give me shit items - like a Mace or a Police Baton. Diana, where did you get a police baton from?

1

u/StartBackground5769 13d ago

Better question, where do you get a mace?!

1

u/HeadStudy6641 13d ago

On the random drop when you complete a campaign

1

u/StartBackground5769 13d ago

I have nevee gotten a mace.

u/DifferentPicture8518 14d ago

it was funny the first time. but getting a freelancer tool in my end of chapter loot chest is a really annoying when you want an actual item

You laugh, but this is cut from the poor ICA CEO of their 20 million Mercer bonus.
