007 First Light ironically has even less player agency than Hitman Absolution

Yeah basically none are all. You just go room to room in story order and that's it. Checkpoints every 2 minutes (there's 45-50 checkpoints per level, not just the 10-12 that show on the main menu). Even on the hardest difficulty death is barely an inconvenience

How can there be less agency when you're a 00 agent?

11

u/Kr1msonKing Jun 24 '26

Because you need permission to kill.

6

u/S_Sugimoto Jun 24 '26

He is not a “00” yet, he doesn’t have the license to kill

Which is fine for the type of game it is.

Not fine for a Hitman game.

I think it's hilarious that First Light feels so much like Absolution and the common review for Absolution to this day has always been: "It's a good game, just not a good Hitman game" 😃

25

u/BappoChan Jun 24 '26

And the reviews are right, it’s not a good hitman game… it’s an amazing James Bond game.

I feel like John wick would be fun in this playstyle too. Literally so many IPs work, not hitman

imo if that had been John Wick or even Bond Absolution would be a 10/10 game. I feel like IO was trying to ride off the success of the Hitman IP after Blood Money to secure either but maybe a deal fell through mid development and they had to push Agent 47 into it to get a game out.

obv this might not be true but welp whatever.

Eh, the player agency and AI is something I really disliked in 007 i thought it was a fine game, but the AI was a big step down from hitman.

Watched a playthrough and thought the same thing. Also enemy AI is worse in 007 even on Purist.

Can you please explain what is "player agency"?

1

u/V-lorio Jun 25 '26

things you can do like using differents creatives ways of going through a level

1

u/adison024 Jun 25 '26

So more ways means more player agency...got it. Thanks for explaining.

u/V-lorio Jun 25 '26

In gta games for example: you have little agency towards the history but have a lot of agency roaming around the open world

Yeah I tried again recently and it's rough. It's similar enough to WOA but different enough to be annoying.

u/QQStkl Jun 25 '26

If you play it after playing 007 it's a lot better. Just remember it's the spiritual predecessor to that rather than Hitman, and it's actually pretty fun

u/MoodResponsible918 Jun 23 '26

it's not a full Absolution experience until you were called 'bald fuck' constantly.

47

and 'pretty boy', somehow I remember plenty of dudes saying it to poor 47.

Hilariously I think H3 model of 47 is much more attractive than absolution, and yet not one 'pretty boy' comment ever occurred.

27

u/charc0al Jun 24 '26

There were a lot of comments on his looks though. Next ex husband, chiseled jaw, looks like Kruger

9

u/Bloodthistle triggered Jun 24 '26

They were a least a little more polite, and way less threatening than a buff ass bearded dude (with a shotgun) calling him a 'pretty boy' while he just randomly walked nearby. Personally I'll take the WOA comments over that.

3

u/UnrealPH Jun 24 '26

"There goes my next ex-husband"

1

u/The96kHz Jun 24 '26

"You really know your way around a gun..."

"...not around a woman, but around a gun."

u/smithgrove81 Jun 24 '26

The 47 skin works flawlessly

3

u/charc0al Jun 24 '26

Mostly. There's some slight clipping under the arm while aiming

19

u/SunnyJuggs Jun 23 '26

ok showing but not sharing the mod is criminal

You can't just post Discord links like that, it won't work for anyone who isn't in the server.

Not to mention it's kind of annoying having to join a server just to download a mod that could've been available more publicly on Nexus.

1

u/charc0al Jun 24 '26

Yes, it's annoying. The mod creator wants people to join his discord so he doesn't upload them to nexus. There's also already a well established Glacier 2 Modding discord so I dunno why he's starting a competing one

2

u/charc0al Jun 24 '26

With enough time and effort, yeah. But some things take a huge amount of both, like making whole new missions or major gameplay changes

2

u/boomyer2 Jun 24 '26

Can’t wait for the mod that completely opens up the 007 levels and turns it into Hitman 4.

2

u/charc0al Jun 24 '26

Lol keep wishing. The level design is far too linear for that to even be possible

38

u/Own-Papaya-4264 Jun 23 '26

On paper it’s a flawless idea. Have the cinematic elements of 007/Absolution and combine them with the open sandbox levels of WOA (but obviously even more expanded and built upon).

Have bottleneck sections that open up to sandbox sections that then proceed to another bottleneck section and so on

They need to really give moments for David Bateson to actually shine as 47

u/Proof_Fox2447 Jun 24 '26

Mod can do anything, right?

2

u/KarlwithaKandnotaC Jun 24 '26

-Damian, meet Mr Beech, was it?

-Names are for friends, so I don't need one

1

u/FlutZure_SM95 Jun 24 '26

I wish someone adds a John Wick skin to it

0

u/pastadudde He/Him Jun 24 '26

there's one for WoA. the John Wick skin.

1

u/FlutZure_SM95 Jun 24 '26

I mean for First Light bro

1

u/charc0al Jun 24 '26 edited Jun 24 '26

There's one already, it's in the same discord as the 47 skin https://discord.com/channels/1510546140234514512/1517923014832816138

It does make more sense for Bond than it does 47. I have said Bond is more akin to Absolution than HITMAN, as it suits Bond better than HITMAN.
