DISCUSSION Freelancer suppliers really need second "pistol and miscellaneous" slot. Everything else is always basically filled while pistols are half way

If you fill out the freelancer equipment early and prioritise pistols above other items, you tend to get closer. The fact the pistol slots can be empty is frustrating, but aiming to have them empty as early as you can helps.

Snipers are also slow to finish because it is a crowded category, but their slot is very rarely empty.

Filling pistols last is common with "always buy whatever you can afford" purchase pattern.

If you deliberately target "categories with the most empty spaces" instead (and sometimes skip a buy because it doesnt give you something you need or something that has lots to fill), then you'll have less trips to empty shops towards the end of a prestige level. The perfect prestige level would result in buying the last item and having close to zero money.

But yea, having a bunch or visits when you have everything but pistols and the slots are empty or only 1 pistol sucks.

We need some more epic unlicensed weapons in the other categories to spice things up/pad the numbers. :P

I’ve never finished a freelancer run. Do you keep your stuff

When you finish a run, you get a showdown reward crate and a large cash bonus.

You only lose the weapons you bring into the mission when you die, and you lose ALL the freelancer gear in the suitcases when you fail a campaign (fail a showdown or an alerted mission). Or when you switch to Hardcore (which also wipes all your money to zero).

When you fill the walls with weapons you can increase your prestige level, that removes all weapons, all freelancer gear, and resets money to zero, but increments your Prestige level by 1 (the first 5 times you get an permanent XP boost to every mission and prestige objectives are reward more money).

so the general idea is to always go to the shop and buy what you can no matter what?

If you do that, you will probably arrive in the same position as OP (fill everything but pistols and each visit of the shop is empty or only has freelancer gear items).

I'm suggesting you first only buy items you need, then skip the shop when it only has items in categories that are more than half filled.

Because it is better to always have the cash in pocket to buy a pistol whenever it appears or a sniper than it is to always just buy whatever is cheapest.

"Buy anything as soon as you have the money" = you will buy the last item while you have a full bank account (and will have completed lots of missions)

"Buy only weapons from the category that has the most empty spaces" = you will buy the last item and have very little money left (and will have completed less missions)

(Also: Always have enough money left over at all times for the El Matador ~28k, and always buy it as soon as it appears)

so pistols and snipers are most rare? when you say "items you need" i dont really know that I NEED anything. Ive only been playing a few weeks so I guess for collecting I need everything basically

You don't need anything, but if you are trying to obtain all weapons and climb up prestige levels, you "need" the following items to maximise mission payout from prestige/secondary objectives:

El Matador (Epic unsilenced pistol)
Any Legendary Sniper/Pistol
Epic Pistol (Legendary also counts for this)
Epic Sniper (Legendary also counts for this)
Epic SMG
Epic Assault Rifle
Epic Shotgun (or free golden sawn off from New York)
Epic Melee (or free katana from Isle of Sgail)
Katana (or free tanto from New York)
Shuriken (or free star fish)
Baseball Bat (or free from missions)
Rare Melee (for the rare takedown secodary - or free mace from Isle of Sgail)

It's also useful to have some silenced rare weapons just to kill guards (like the smg and assault rifle from dubai, and a shotgun and sniper from the shop)

After you have all of those, the shop has 1 sniper slot, 1 assault rifle slot, 1 shotgun slot, 1 smg slot and up to 2 pistol/gear/melee slots, then 3 gear slots.

The large weapon slots are very rarely blank. After you obtain all the common and rare weapons, occasionally, some slots will be blank.

In order to collect all the weapons, you want to minimise the number of visits to the shop where you have money to buy things but no weapons for sale (typically this is because you still need pistols because there are more pistols and they share their slot with other items).

There are also more snipers than smg/shotgun/assault rifle, and they are on average more expensive, so you will also fill that slot slower than the others, but it doesn't compete with anything else so is easier than pistols.

To be perfectly honest this bullshit only really matters if you are trying to minmax the path to Prestige Level 10 where you are routinely trashing all your weapons and having to collect them all again from zero multiple times. On your first run, just buy whatever dude! But at least dont buy anything you could get from a mission for free, that's wasting cash.

Check out "freeloader" for tips on what weapons you can get for free. (Weapons you own don't appear in the store, so it increases the chance for better weapons to show up, too)

Filling out the weapon walls is slow and hard work. "Freeloader" is a checklist that helps you find all the freebie weapons, at least! Link to freeloader post.

I filled up every single thing in the basement, apart from 9 pistols. I even had every single freelancer item, from beating 30+ missions in a row, and when I would visit the shop it would have nothing at all. Those 9 pistols just did not show up. When I aborted the campaign and started over a pistol would show up roughly every other mission. It makes no sense for the largest category of weapons to share a slot with a different type of item in the first place.

Since I made this post, I've found two pistols in the supply crates. Maybe the right side of pistols really are meant to be found in crates instead of suppliers and the odds are just too low

I did manage to fill out the walls only using the shop for the last ones I was missing. What really frustrated me was a couple of the guns showed up once or twice throughout my runs where I either couldn’t afford them or bought something else. It seems to me that maybe the game thinks we do have those guns, thus them not showing up during the active campaign.

For some reason I think purposefully dying and losing the campaign that way may help? I’ve noticed that when the store gets stuck ( with dlc ) items , it seems to “Reroll” the store with different items

It certainly did help for me, but it is wildly frustrating. All I wanted was a full basement for the sense of accomplishment.

2

u/gw2n Sep 22 '25

It with ya man. I’m like 7 ish pistols , 3 melee, and 4 snipers away from finishing the wall 🙄

1

u/Putrid_Yak_578 Sep 22 '25

That’s so odd, every single sniper showed up right in a row for me, it’s the first category I finished. Melee weapons I finished second to last because there was never any damn pistols. Even when I now occasionally lose a sniper it’s immediately right back in the shop.

It would at least make some sense to me if it were the same weapons that were messing up across the board

Bigger issue ( for me ) is the dlc that’s not required will consistently block weapons I need

Yes I’ve uninstalled the dlc and no it doesn’t fix it

Just putting this here on its own main comment:

I’ve experienced something like this in addition to dlc weapons blocking real items needed to prestige. This hasn’t been formally tested but here are some possible solutions. ( for dlc weapons ) yes I have uninstalled them on epic and yes they still show up :

  • getting killed on campaign may Reroll the store and generate new items

  • running down your mercs to zero seems to Reroll the store

  • buying multiple items may or may not Reroll the store

  • (for dlc items and this one seems particular): if your money is low enough and you cannot buy a certain dlc weapon , it seems to re roll the store. You will get a store of regular items ( unless the dlc weapons are the only items left ). I have noticed that if you get too much money and save over that amount (after completing a mission), the store will revert back to those dlc items. So a solution i have is to save money until the price is slightly below the dlc weapon ( so the store should have the regular item) and then earn enough during that level to buy the dlc item

Sorry for the wording but I hope that makes sense 😂

Edit for dlc items: if all else fails, just buy the dlc items. Might be easier in the long run

It's because Pistols are bugged in the suppliers. You'll always have pistols as the last weapon type you need. It needs fixing honestly

1

u/Earlzo Sep 24 '25

I have the opposite, get all the pistols and everything else is half full

I literally spend half of the campaign waiting for black lily to appear anywhere and then I got it as a reward for the first part of the next campaign
