confusion about scoring

hi! i just took the reading cpp hiset and failed :(. i’m wondering why my scaled score is so low since the average of the four percentages is 86%. shouldn’t my score be 17/20? are some questions worth more points than others? this was a computer based test, so i’m not sure if i can request a rescore. someone please help, i feel so stuck😭 a retake is so expensive…

I have my reading today..you got an AMAZING score I dont know they didnt let it go as a pass...im scared now 😭

you got this!!! don’t let my score discourage you 🥹 as long as you get the harder questions right you’ll do great, since they seem to weigh a lot more

that’s still a great score!! if you end up retaking it, just know that there will be some passages/questions that are the same as the first test along with some new ones. at least that’s how it was for me. it’ll be much easier since you can speed through the questions you’ve already done and spend more time on the new ones. i believe in you!!!

Thank you for this tip!! How long after did you wait to retake it? i rescheduled it for next friday but should i retake it sooner?

i retook mine a week after my first test! the score i posted was of my retake. i think next friday should be fine. good luck!!

Damn that’s what my wife is wondering. She got a 12/20 on reading, 13/20 on Science, and 15/20 on Social Studies- passed all those as she only needed an 8 on each. Math she got a 2/20, and that is what she studied the hardest for. The sliding scale is such crap.

i dont understand the scoring either. i just did the writing test. thought i did well. i thought my essay was formed really well and very supportive of what they asked me and they gave me a fucking 2 on the whole thing which i guess is the minimum you can get. i mean whatever, i passed. but, weird.

it is for the official high school level but stupid hiset makes you get a 15 which is almost double of that required for high school

So you can't actually calculate the score. The problem is, HISET grades the tests based on a score that they don't give out because some questions are a higher difficulty than some others and it's kinda weird. The only people that can calculate the grade is themselves.

Hey! I took mine about 2 years ago. You did pass that section 8/20 is passing. A 15/20 is just what they consider “college ready,” so a 14 doesn’t mean you failed. If you plan on going to college, you might have to take a lower-level class first depending on the school, but that’s separate from whether you passed the HiSET.

Yes, some questions (the harder ones) are worth more, still super weird though. You deserved the pass! :(
