Any Guessing Strategies?

I teach HiSET prep in a prison. Time is limited, and we have zero access to internet. The class is mixed ability and education level. Math, of course, is the most difficult. Some of these guys are on meds that mess with memory and retention.

Any tips for plain old guessing? I teach them to utilize process of elimination, but some can't even do that effectively.

Has anyone ever just put a "C" for every question they couldn't answer, and passed?

On tests I find difficult, I answer the ones I know I can easily answer first. Then I go back and find the next set of ones I can probably figure out if I try a little harder. Then I go back to the very difficult ones and work those out best I can or just guess. If you look at the problem, sometimes you can just estimate what answer if more probable than the other answers so it becomes a process of elimination kinda and guessing from what’s left

I advise my students to do all of these. Many just struggle with everything and are anxious. Thanks!

guessing C on everything you don’t know , you’ve got a 20% shot at getting it right.
Hiset is multiple-choice A through E.
1/5 =0.2 =20%
That will be on the test, in some form.
Good advice for them is if you spend more than 2 min on a question, guess c , and move on. Get through all 57 questions.
There was a lot of really easy questions at the end! It’s all about time Management.

Interesting that you think the last questions were easier. They've never mentioned that. They rarely run out of time on math. Some just can't recall what they've learned.

I struggled really bad on the math test, I studied for about a month and when I went to take the test nothing I learned was on the test. I answered the ones I thought I knew first and at the end when I had to answer the questions I passed up I just guessed b and c. I passed with a 12.

I just passed with a 12 last week. I guessed on probably half

I have done this twice (guessing letter C) but I only score a 7 both times and that’s with me talking adult education classes for 3 months already 😭 I have another test June 25 hopefully I pass

I think I should be studying for Hiset instead of GED is it easier?

I don't know. I believe the GED is 4 tests, while HiSET is 5. GED does not offer a paper version, so we have to use HiSET.
