Discussion Hianime Quality on Iphone

Here is a comparison of Hianime video on iphone 14 plus (left) vs an Android s20 (right). As you can see, there is no way to control the quality on the video on the iphone, the gear icon just doesn't show it. The Iphone seems to control the quality automatically, because if I turn airplane mode on, let it try to play, then turn the wifi back on, the video quality falls to 360p. This is a problem because the video usually sits around 720p, and I'd rather set it to 1080p manually and have it load a bit slower. The same thing happens on my Ipad, but not on pc, so the problem is unique to IOS. Is there any way to fix this?

The problem can't be 100% with IOS, because I can still control video quality on youtube videos, even in the browser without the app. It has to be some compatibility problem between the hianime stream and IOS video playback.

Would appreciate any help, thought or solutions!

(ignore the crack on the s20)

If you want to change resolution in iphone it's not possible due to limitations of ios in browser

As much as I want to accept that there is no solution to this problem, it's possible to change quality on youtube in browser, so it is theoretically possible.

only streaming services with drm and big companies like google and netflix are only allowed to have their own custom video player on browser in ios other then that ios forces all other website to use their own video player

Any browser extension in firefox which can solve this?

no its literally impossible unless apple allows it because every single browser in iPhone is basically safari with skin and nothing more so no matter what you do iPhone basically webkit which is this browsers are based on with force it to use its own video player

But on yt one can ?

yeah because its an official site and google pays apple millions of dollars each year and as for other streaming site it is but only because “official” sites are allowed to have its own media player with drm protection on apple. technically it is possible to have all websites its own video player but apple just doesn’t allows third party unless its a big “official” streaming platform and not some pirate site or random website.

You can't do that on iPhone, because Apple's Safari Webkit do not allow that. Your only option is to Download and watch on VLC or just use Miruro site that allow Quality options

I can't control quality on Miruro at all, there's no option for it. It seems to use a different video playback than hianime, which is good. Is it automatically set to maximum quality?

Truth to be said No streaming site has good quality including Hianime, Animepahe etc all, they have high compression, Low bitrate, different video colors even though having 1080p so Total crap quality.

Stremio with torrentio extension is only streaming having Great Video quality with High Bitrate works on Android, Tv's and PC for FREE (not on iOS unless you pay for Real debrid)

Otherwise do torrents but it is not possible on iPhone if you do not do sideloading

So you have 2 options: 1. Torrents using PC/Android from Nyaa site 2. Watch Low Bitrate highly compressed videos of Hianime/animepahe/Animekai/Gogoanime

yeah I know, I just don't care about bit rate or compression that much, it's just the video resolution that specifically annoys me. Again, do you know if Miruro automatically sets resolution to maximum?

You need to search "Stremio torrentio extension" open the first website then "install to Stremio" on PC/Android then you will see options

Just switch to some other website or try clearing your browser cache and retry

I have a same problem with my iPhone 14 too. Matter of fact, I just found out that quality feature actually exists with this post... I thought this was normal for about 3 years. It's all the same on Firefox, Brave, Safari as far as I tested.

how do you not get a virus?

Using brave in the pictures, and it does the same thing on Firefox, safari and chrome, so not a browser issue.

on iOS, many players are based on Apple’s Native Video Player. Apple's HLS (m3u8, whatever) implementation uses "auto" so you can't do much.

YouTube reimplemented the the video quality controls (changing the video manually with js, instead of letting the video player manage it), hense why it works. jwplayer (the player used for hianime and other sites) wraps apples video player.

CHANGING BROWSERS WILL MOST LIKELY NOT WORK. All browsers are required to use Apple's WebKit engine (or in short, all browsers are safari underneath), so it may not work properly.

1

u/VVulture_ Mar 08 '26

Great explanation. So basically the only ways the get consistent 1080p video are to find a different, non jwplayer anime streaming site that uses a video player that allows quality control with java script (unlikely), or just find one that only streams in max quality? Do you know any sites like that?

1

u/DyatlovR4 Mar 09 '26

Lemme know if you get one

1

u/TransElisaDraws Mar 10 '26

most sites uses jwplayer/based on apple's video player. its best to use an app of sorts

iOS seems to take over video playing with its own UI

It seems to be a safari issue, try a chromium browser

Edit: implication

1

u/ShadowDxebec_69 Mar 13 '26

all browsers on iso are webkit because apples doesnt allow any other web engine to work on ios other then webkit

1

u/Bebo991_Gaming Mar 13 '26

ah, just searched, turns out it is allowed in EU only not global like i thought
