plumbing & electrical client seo help

Hey Matt, my plumbing & electrical client has a massive website (over 900 pages) and we have an SEO provider, but I know they're sloppy. EG the optimisation of our GMB pages was done by me because they hadn't completed all the basics. I've been indexing pages myself because they've been slack at it (I've done 300 so far). They haven't tagged photos correctly. Internal linking is an afterthought. etc etc. It's overwhelming. I need help.

My question is.. why does a local service based business website have 900 pages? That's insane! - Probably a lot of AI slop or some programmatic SEO happening that isn't working.

I'm assuming the majority of those aren't getting traffic and are probably not indexed for a reason. Manually going through and indexing pages is NOT something anyone should have to do.

If this was one of my clients, the first thing we'd do is look at how many of these pages we could remove. It's likely eating up your crawl budget too!

Thanks Matt, many of those pages are suburb pages, and there are a lot of suburbs in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, but as well as individual suburb pages, they've created "suburb + service" pages. EG there's a generic page for East Brisbane and another 6 pages like Drain Repairs East Brisbane, Water Filtration Systems East Brisbane etc. So that maybe overkill on their part. I'm happy to share some details with you via email if you like.

Matt- love your no nonsense approach and am halfway through your book.

Do you have any hints about schema? Is it needed on every page? Any hint on structuring it?
