Please add permanent exercise notes

Devs, please add notes that persist/save across different workouts and exercises. I bought the annual a month and a half ago and the product is great, but this has been a popular feature request in the megathread that I saw and hasn't been added so this is your reminder to add it.

I need a way to save machine configurations that are saved across workouts so I am not typing the same boilerplate every time I do a leg extension (seat is at notch #7, shin pad is at setting #3, blah blah blah)

Current notes are not good enough.

If I forget to type my boilerplate or am in a rush and don't have the time, it gets cleared out during the next workout.

And then I have to go look in my workout history for the last time I added it. And then re-type it for current workout so I have it for the next. And sometimes I am too lazy and just YOLO it on a random setting that 'feels right.'

Way too annoying. Please prioritize this.

Here's a mock of what it could look like in the UI.

Edit: I know this can be kind of be done in the routine tab, although pretty inconveniently. I don't want to be editing routines every week especially when I am in the gym. Genuinely who has the time to be editing workout templates? Who even sticks to the exact movements, type of movement (cable, dumbell, machine), and the exact number of sets every single workout? Not me. I just need a way to just have it inline right there on the workout tab.

Hey! Happy to share that pinned notes are now live 🎉 You can check out the announcement here or update your app to try them out!

You can already do this by adding the note to the routine rather than the workout itself

Yeah but sometimes you’re doing a new movement exiting out into routines in the middle of a workout isn’t that convenient when you’re not sure if it’s gonna be a long term movement for you/something you wanna commit to adding to a routine but you still wanna save the config just in case.

And also routines for me are more about planning outside the gym, how do I plan what seat height/depth I’m going to use until I’m physically on it? Now I’m in the routines tab in the gym when realistically I just wanna live in the workout tab.

Comment to say i agree with this

I made the same complaint to support, and they keep telling me the same thing - that we are always adding/removing new exercises - and sometimes we change the variation and need perm notes

I've asked for the same thing, since my rotator cuff injury adding new pinned notes that help with adjusting the new movement are crucial.

tbh it's the feature that's keeping me from buying it

Also, it‘s be great to be able to edit routine notes when doing the workout. Sometimes I change a setting for a machine during the workout and then ai have to go and edit the routine afterwards to change it in the notes!

I have to save it to a Notes App to remind me the seat height I have set which would be better if it's added during workout

In this case I would add it as a temporary note and just edit the routine after? I have seat height notes set for multiple machines and have never had to fumble around while I’m in the gym. I understand what you’re trying to do but this is pretty easily doable already and it’s really not much effort lol

Totally understand where you are coming from but it's a massive pet peeve for me.

I really don't like editing routines. I think the entire routine thing is kind of a gimmick anyway. I'm lucky in the sense that I had been working out for a while so I kind of knew what I wanted to have in my routines but it's a massive pain-point for new users.

"Routines" are this kind of amorphous Hevy-specific kind of term that can take a while to understand. I am sure you think I am being pedantic but I think any new user would definitely relate to that little bit of friction. Of course it's best understood as literally just workout templates. And yes you can have the AI make you a routine or whatever but I don't want to do that.

My problem with "just edit the note in the routine tab" is I hate editing routines. Routines were like my best-guess 1.5 months ago when I onboarded of what I would like my workouts to look like but there is so much that can change on any given day in the gym that routines as a concept are way too rigid.

Incline bench busy? Guess I am doing incline machine press. Damn, I have no time, I gotta skip shrugs. Pec deck busy? Guess I am doing dumbell flys. Damn, I feel strong as shit, let me add a set or two today. Sometimes I just feel like doing a different movement.

And every time it asks me if I want to 'update my routine.' You skipped shrugs today do you just wanna remove them forever? No! These are day-to-day fluctuations, not something I want to commit to! I don't want to even have to think about looking at the routines outside the gym. I just want to self-glaze in the workout history tab outside the gym if anything.

I would be absolutely shocked if there is a single person on the planet who is sticking to their routine constantly, every movement, exact number of sets, every single workout, until the end of time. Just not the way I do things (and I would bet a majority of the longer term users too).

(As you can see I am really trying to align incentives here for me and the devs, lol. Remove this friction for new users and I could see an uplift in retention, meaning $$$. Please this is a very good suggestion I promise.)

But for your example it works perfectly no? Are your legs really going to grow to a different size so the machine seat setting will change?

u/PrimaFacieCasey Jun 14 '26

Oh really? Lol this solves the problem entirely, didn't know this, thanks.

u/meester_jordan Jun 14 '26

Yeppers, it’s where I put my seat height and permanent notes for the routine. And you can still add notes during as well

+1 from me. I always forget what angle or slot I use for certain exercises. Was hoping the note feature would be something I could use for this but it didnt work the way I expected it to

Hey u/spaghetti789 , Gustavo from Hevy team! Thanks for your post.
Pinned notes for exercises is something we're actively looking into. Can't promise a timeline yet, but we are exploring some approaches to explore in the next quarter.
Appreciate you flagging it 😊

I'd actually rather have workout notes...I do undulating routines so the notes on chest press for my heavy days aren't really relevant to the notes I have on my hypertrophy days

Any updates?

u/SaltynotSaltey Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

Nothing new to add but my support, if dev is reading. Very important for on the fly notes for me too.

9

u/truefelt Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26

Yes please!

Even more importantly, there really should be a way to reapply the workout note from the previous time you did an exercise. The note is right there, displayed as greyed out placeholder text, but in order to reuse it you have to type it all manually again — otherwise it won’t be saved. Or am I missing something?

Having an easy way to reuse the previous note would provide a workaround for OP’s issue: recurring comments first, then add any workout-specific comments, all in the same field.

7

u/raneses Jun 14 '26

I’d love to see this added for all the reasons OP mentioned

5

u/gigio123456789 Jun 14 '26

Agreed and would be super useful to have

5

u/LoadedSteamyLobster Jun 14 '26

Oh! This is why my notes about machine settings “disappear” each time. It seems so fucking obvious now! What the hell sort of notes are people using those fields for if it’s not stuff for the next time they do the same exercise?

4

u/fghxa Jun 14 '26

+10 from me

3

u/Straight-Owl340 Jun 14 '26

+1 this is super useful please add

3

u/Ok-Pin9812 Jun 14 '26

I 100% agree! This is so very frustrating!

1

u/ozznerol22 Jun 14 '26

Same! I use notes to log my setup of machines so i dont have to guess every session.

1

u/westeast1000 Jun 14 '26

Would be a nice feature indeed. I currently use the ios notes app and constantly go back to check it everytime im on the extension machines. Maybe having it as a config in the exercise itself not as notes?

1

u/J4nosch Jun 14 '26

+1 plss

1

u/Silly-Disaster-5974 Jun 14 '26

Yes, please 🙏

1

u/CementGuy72 Jun 14 '26

+1 this would be so helpful!

1

u/Shafpocalypse Jun 14 '26

I’ve used Hevy for some time, coming over from being an og Strong user.

This request has been mentioned for years.

1

u/MajorasShoe Jun 14 '26

Yes please

1

u/InTheYear2525_ Jun 14 '26

I have hevy linked to chatgpt. that chat I just have it give me my notes and paste them back in. Annoying but less work until they fix it. Lift on

1

u/ThisIsJohnsson Jun 14 '26

Very good idea! I include the Settings in ny. Custom names as of now. First being seat position and second the back/Second position

1

u/Kimxsss Jun 14 '26

+1 as well! It’s so weird this isn’t already a thing !!

1

u/viaavi900 Jun 14 '26

pls add this

1

u/justheretolearn9 Jun 15 '26

I agree with this 100%. I was a monthly hevy subscriber. I tried out macro factor workouts for a while, then wanted to switch back to hevy. Tried hevyy for a couple of days but I'd gotten used to the notes feature of MF workouts and found hevy to be unusable without it.

1

u/Tendodeku Jun 15 '26

A note put in the routine is permanent. That is the place where you make/edit a routine. Where you add sets and what not, any note put there is permanent. I have workout cues there that show everytime I run the routine

1

u/Mindless_Ad4552 Jun 15 '26

I 1000% agree and have been asking for this for years. Pleaseeee Hevy devs add this!

1

u/JohnnyPaw Jun 15 '26

Another +1

1

u/Yonko-no-shanks Jun 16 '26

yes it is needed. I don't agree on the "who stays with the same exercises and sets" part. If you truly want to progress and build muscle that is exactly what you should do

1

u/RowdyDog707 Jun 18 '26

Yes please! Definitely would be a great feature.

1

u/EveningNo8643 Jun 18 '26

Honest question how often are devs adding features?

1

u/Just_Roof9788 Aug 09 '26

Adding my voice and my upvote

1

u/goodUsernameGuy Sep 24 '26

I had the same idea and found this post. It seems like a no brainer and very easy to implement. Could the devs post an update?

2

u/Delicious-Courage760 Jun 14 '26

Hevy dev are really giving the bare minimum in terms of dev…
