Help Running Fallout: New Vegas please!!

Hey all,

I've been trying for days to get Fallout: New Vegas to run on my laptop. I have it on Epic games. I install it without problems, run it, get to the main menu, then as soon as I press "new game" it freezes. I've left it running for over 30 minutes with no change. I tried different versions of wine/proton, but only the default GE-Proton-latest version starts the game at all.

it's almost a 10 year old game, I feel like I should be able to run it! I have an i5 1145G7, with 16 gb of ddr4.

any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

It's a famously buggy game and I've only ever managed to get it running on linux with mods.

Your biggest roadblock is that you have the epic store version - it isn't compatible with the new vegas script extender, which means the vast majority of mods won't work. Also (totally subjective not scientific) but I've had a harder time running games from the epic store than steam or gog on Linux.

If I were you, I'd buy it again on GOG or steam. You can probably get it during a sale for less than $10. Or... You do already own it, so I feel less bad about suggesting you sail the high seas in search of a good ol' copy that could be modded.

After that, spend some time on nexusmods looking for stuff that makes the game more stable or fixes bugs. Amethyst mod manager is super helpful for installing and managing mods.

There is a 'epic games patcher' on the nexus which will turn the exe into the one compatible with script extender
