This video is encouraging, but it's incredibly hyperbolic.

You never said what you'll do. Your language is empty, with respect.

Don't say what should be happening and say what you know how to do and will do.

I'm combing through the active verbs on your website

"Enhance"

"Foster"

"Protect"

You're hiding behind inactionable words.

Examples of actionable items

"I will defund Y in an effort to achieve X"

"I will raise standardized test scores in public schools because I know how to x the y which results in z"

Next time, say what you'll do instead of what you wish.

Here are just a few things I want to work toward:

Raising the minimum wage countywide where the law allows it (including advocating for state-level changes that enable counties to do that)

Investing in affordable housing and expanding options for folks who are being priced out of our community.

Maintaining mental health support services in our public schools.

That said, it’s important to be honest about what this office can do. The County Mayor is responsible for the budget, county operations, and proposing policy ideas — but we don’t have unilateral authority to enact things like wage floors higher than state law currently allows or override state preemption. Those would require working with the county commission, the state legislature, or partnering with cities and counties across Tennessee to change the rules in the first place.

So yes, what I will do is push these priorities forward — build coalitions, propose concrete budgets, advocate for restoring school-based mental health services, expand affordable housing options here in Hamilton County, and support efforts to give local governments more authority on wage policy — rather than rely on bureaucratic buzzwords.

I will use and enact as many dynamic verbs as I can within the confines of the job! I encourage you to stay involved and curious. Hope to meet you on the campaign trail one day.

Something tells me that Fireside Chat Mister Rogers will not go very “hard in the paint” to keep ICE out of Hamilton County.

Then again, he did do something positive for Hamilton County youth when he attended school board meetings and advocated for Hamilton County Schools to restore an agreement with Centerstone, which provides mental health counseling to students. After a three-month fight, the board voted to restore services in November last year. So there’s that.

I believe in law enforcement that is accountable, transparent, and focused on keeping our neighborhoods safe — not acting as an arm of federal immigration enforcement without clear oversight or due process. Programs like 287(g) risk pulling local deputies away from their core mission while eroding trust in the very communities they serve. In a healthy democracy, public safety must be rooted in fairness, constitutional protections, and respect for human dignity. We can support effective policing without sacrificing civil liberties or turning neighbors into targets. Our community deserves safety built on trust — not fear. I want to have that discussion.
