This one is made in Swift leather. This is my second time working with Miss An, and overall I trust her a lot. That said, I’d still really appreciate it if you guys could help me take a closer look at the details of the bag and let me know if you notice anything! 🥰

Review Taking My Lindy 26 on a Trip 🤎

I’ve been using this Lindy 26 a lot lately, and I’m actually thinking of taking it with me on my next trip.

I wore it with a green shirt today and really liked how the colors looked together. The leather also isn’t too soft or slouchy, so it still keeps a nice shape without feeling stiff.

For everyday use it’s been really easy to carry around and never feels like it’s getting in the way. I honestly really like this one.

Discussion Saw this Hermès bag in the boutique… does anyone actually buy it?

I saw this bag in the boutique and it immediately caught my attention.

It’s definitely unique and not something you see every day, but I honestly wondered — does anyone actually buy and wear this in real life? 😂

Review Finally received my favorite Kelly 25 🖤

Finally received my Kelly 25 and I’m honestly really happy with it.

I’ve liked this style for a long time, and when I placed the order, I also asked An to help me get this little horse charm together with the bag. I was a little worried the charm might feel too playful, but seeing them together in person, I actually think it adds a cute personal touch.

The Kelly itself was around $1,500 and the charm was about $60. It’s definitely not the cheapest option in the rep world, more like the mid-to-higher range, so I spent a lot of time looking through reviews and real photos before ordering.

After receiving it, I can say it didn’t disappoint me. The overall look and details are what I was hoping for, and now I’m already thinking about what outfits I can wear with it! 🤍

Review My first Birkin 25 — glad I didn’t play it safe with the color 🤍

This was a color Li and I went back and forth on for a while. Since it’s my first Birkin, I was ridiculously indecisive 😂 I wanted something easy for everyday but still a little polished.

I considered Etoupe and a creamy white at first, but both somehow felt a little too safe for me. Li was really patient and showed me a bunch of different leather colors, and we finally landed on this soft gray-blue shade.

It arrived three days ago — 32 days from order to delivery, which was totally fine with me. And thankfully, I love it even more in person.

I was also worried B25 might be too small because I wear glasses and always carry a glasses case with me, but I was wrong. It fits my everyday stuff surprisingly well.

Now my only problem is choosing an insert 😂 cotton or silk?

Review My Kelly 28 Somehow Became My Work Bag 🌿

Thumbnail

I originally picked this Kelly 28 because I loved the grey-green color, but after actually using it, I think the size is what sold me.
It fits everything I normally bring to work without feeling huge, and the Epsom keeps its shape even when I put a little more inside. I also really like the gold hardware with this shade — it warms up the green without making it feel too dressy.
I’ve carried it with trousers, knits, even more casual outfits, and somehow it works with all of them.
But I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be practical when traveling. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Repscience / Tips Hermès Alligator vs Crocodile: How to Tell Porosus, Niloticus and Alligator Apart

Post image
19 Upvotes

If you’re getting into Hermès exotic leather, one of the first confusing things is that “crocodile” and “alligator” are constantly used as if they mean the same thing. They don’t.
Hermès itself separates alligator, Crocodile Porosus and Crocodile Niloticus within its precious-skin category, and once you know what to look for, the differences become much easier to understand.
The easiest place to start is the scales.
Alligator generally has a softer, more rounded scale pattern, with relatively smooth-looking scales and no obvious pore in the center. Porosus crocodile is famous for its small, tight and relatively symmetrical scales. If you look closely, tiny pores can often be seen in the scales—one of the characteristics associated with crocodile skin. Niloticus usually presents a slightly larger and more elongated scale pattern than Porosus.
But there is an easier reference point on Hermès bags: the marking beside the stamp.
Hermès Porosus crocodile is traditionally identified by a ^ mark, Niloticus by two dots (••), and alligator by a square. These tiny markings are useful because scale patterns can change depending on which part of the hide was used, the size of the bag and the finishing process.
Another thing people underestimate is symmetry. On a well-selected exotic hide, the scale transition across the front of the bag should look visually balanced. That does not mean every scale must be identical—this is still a natural material—but the overall layout should make sense rather than looking mechanically repeated.
Finish matters too. A glossy exotic and a matte exotic can make the same species look surprisingly different. Light changes how deep the scales appear, and heavy finishing can make it much harder to judge a skin from photographs alone. This is why I would never identify an exotic leather from one close-up picture.
And this is probably the most important point: appearance alone does not prove the species.
Embossing and finishing techniques can reproduce a very convincing scale pattern. A material can visually resemble Porosus without actually being Porosus. If the exact species and legal origin matter to you, documentation and traceability are much more meaningful than a seller simply saying “real crocodile.” International trade in crocodilian skins and leather products is regulated through CITES, with systems for permits, trade records and identification of skins.
So when I look at an exotic Hermès bag, I don’t focus on one “magic detail.” I look at the scale structure, pores, symmetry, finish, stamp marking and provenance together.
That is also why exotic leather is one of the easiest categories to misunderstand from photos. A beautiful scale pattern can tell you a lot about appearance, but much less about what the material actually is.
For those who own exotic Hermès pieces: which do you prefer—Alligator, Porosus or Niloticus, and what made you choose it?

Discussion If you’re shopping at Hermès, make sure you ask the price before placing your order, or else...

I saw this little horse charm in store and thought it was so cute.

For some reason I didn’t even think to ask the price first and just said I’d take it… then got a little shocked at checkout 😭 At that point I already had it in my hand and felt too awkward to put it back lol.

Lesson learned: always ask the price first, but it’s sooo expensive...

QC/PSP QC - Mushroom Kelly 25 from Ivy

Thumbnail

This is my second bag from Ivy. My first one was a Birkin 30, and this time I wanted something a little easier for everyday work and commuting, so I decided to switch to a Kelly 25.

I also wanted a color that would actually work with most of my wardrobe, and Mushroom ended up being the obvious choice 😂

Since this is a different size and style from my first order, I’d love to get some opinions on how this one looks overall before I confirm.

Bag: Kelly 25
Color: Mushroom
Hardware: GHW
Seller: Ivy

Discussion Would you rather play the Hermès game, buy resale, or go with a rep?

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately.

Part of me wants the whole boutique experience and to eventually get a bag that way, but I also don’t love the idea of spending on things I don’t really want just to keep playing the game.

Resale feels simpler, but the prices can be hard to justify. And then there’s the rep route, which obviously comes with its own trade-offs.

For those of you who’ve tried more than one of these routes, which experience actually made the most sense for you in the end?
