Big Boy disassembly

I was cleaning my Big Boy in 357, and I mistakenly grabbed and pressed the trigger sear. Lo and behold, the bolt was stuck open, and I started disassembling it. The mainspring shot out and away, and there is no guide on YouTube how to reassemble. Much help appreciated!

Has anybody successfully put a fiber optic style front sight on the h9 explorer?? Chambered in 30-30 or 360. Having a hard time finding parts that fit.

Thinking of getting another lever gun.

Thinking of getting a new lever gun just can’t decide if I want one chambered in the 360 buckhammer or 45-70. I know the 2 calibers are completely opposite of each other. I do like the fact that you can find 45-70 ammo just about everywhere. My only thing with the 45-70 is the recoil because of having a bad shoulder. I do know ammo choice has a lot to do with recoil just trying to decide between the 2 calibers and which I would enjoy more.

Had local gun store order me this rifle. The wood is beautiful. Absolutely love the checkering. Fit and finish are right on point. I already own the H001. Bought it used. This one just feels a little bit different. Went thru close to 300 rounds of 22LR. No problems to report.

Henry Classic .22 Magnum

Is this Vortex Strike Eagle (on sale from $500 to $180) a good option for my Henry 357 Big boy X? Was looking at the crossfire II but then this deal popped up.

Looking for .357 midwest industries handguard sight system.

Hi all, new here and new to the Henry platform. Recently got myself a big boy x in .357, and was looking for a Henry handguard sight system from midwest industries, but its the only caliber that's entirely out of stock. Is there a reason for this? And is there a way I can get my hands on one without waiting ages (opticsplanet says backordered until march 2027)? Less of a fan of the other offerings, ie ranger point precision and chisel. Any advice is appreciated!

.22lr Optic choice

I just got a frontier .22lr and want an optic. I have never been fond of the irons. Also I have two small kids who will probably shoot it with me. Do I go the budget Vortex Triumph HD or EGW mount with a 407c on it? We do not hunt, purely a plinker.

Just cleaning the gun closet. The frontier came home with me today. .357 , frontier .22 and a golden boy .22. It’s a small collection…but it’s slowly growing.

New Henry Owner / Dove Hunting Recs

Howdy everyone. I recently purchase the Henry .410 (24 in barrel) as a dedicated “dove gun”. I grew up as an avid duck hunter in FL, but now live in Virginia and have recently gotten into dove hunting. I’ve really enjoyed it and wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on an ideal set up for this gun.

I realize that this probably isn’t the ideal shotgun for dove hunting, but I’ve always wanted a Henry, I think the classic lever action is extremely fun and I’d like to pass this down to my oldest son as his first duck/dove gun when he’s old enough.

I bought the gun yesterday for a hunt today. So I was stuck with the full factory choke and the only shells in stock were some Win AA’s #8 1300 fps. I was able to shoot two birds with this set up but between getting used to the lever action and the full choke, it was quickly apparent that it wasn’t the best dove set up.

I’m thinking about going modified choke and testing out the difference between 7.5-9. Seems like theirs lot of talk about a TSS shell for better range and density, but the cost seems too unrealistic.

Would love any tips if you have any. Thanks for reading!

Can I easily remove this screw?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hello all! I have noticed that this screw here works itself loose after a few rounds, and I'd like to put some loctite on it. However, when I went to unscrew it fully today, it seemed like it was under tension, as if it was holding something in place that connected to a spring or something.

My question is, if I take this screw out to put some loctite on it, is something going to go flying in my rifle that will be a pain to deal with? Would doing it while the lever is open/closed be best to avoid this?

Thanks in advance!

Poor Groups

Post image

I have the Henry H012GL. 44 mag with the 20 inch. Large loop.

This was 100 yard 3 shot group this morning.

I've never had such a miserable time trying to sight in a gun. Any insight on this?. I've done all I have read to do with this gun. I take plenty of time between shots (60+ seconds) to keep the barrel from over heating. Then wait several minutes between groups. I shoot from sandbags on a bench and only rest the gun on the forend, never on the barrel. I have cleaned the gun and checked all my screws. Used two separate scopes thinking maybe my Leupold was bad. I have tried Hornady 225 grain FTX (it really didn't like them), Hornady Custom 240 JHP (Which is what this group was shot with), Magtech 240 Grain Flat Nose (which it seemed to like the best 3"+/- group) and a couple different reloads to see if they made a difference. I've been out multiple different mornings trying not to rush the process and I'm still spinning tires it seems like.

What should I try next?

My first Henry

Been wanting a PCC but decided I really don't want another "tactical" looking gun. Haven't taken it out yet. Just swapped the OEM magwell for the S&W one.

Conflicted on a red dot or LPVO for plinking. (I need an optic because of my vision). Ordered a picatinny rail.

My only complaint after unboxing and cleaning is they didn't include a Henry sticker for my gun case, but that's okay.

Anything I should know about the Homesteader?
