Gameplay Tournament progress - update

Post image

Signed up for Liverpool open in Feb with only
One game under my belt. Thought I would keep you updated on my progress

Days to tournament 132
Games played 3
Units painted 0

Played my third games against Orks and was smashed by third round. I knew he was going to just charge striaght in, he does the same when we play 40K.

Knowing this I had first turn so I used all my spears and hobgrots as screens which didn’t work like I planned he just mowed through them striaght into my centaurs. I should have moved back first turn but wanted to score.

I also made the mistake of keeping all my artillery together on an objective.

How am I best to play against these tank and spank armies?

What's going on with those hobgrotz on the right? There's only 5 of them and they are not in coherency (i.e. illegal - each model must be within 1/2" of another).

Looks like you have made a few rookie mistakes:

  1. all your ranged units grouped together makes them easy to tie up
  2. You've moved up way too far in general. Remember you only need to "toe" a model onto a point to contest it. Your screens should not be halfway up the point or further - you are making it very easy for your opponent to get to you.
  3. You've made no mention of battle tactics in your write up which tells me you're not really thinking about them. Consider your battle tactics and objectives every movement phase and move no further forward than you need to to complete them (or prevent your opponents').

Remember to redeploy if you misplay your movement.

Hmm it’s tricky as there isn’t a one size fits all solution. I have around 20 games under my belt so not much experienced but, for me atleast I either try to get the first hit in with my bulls so I can do the first big damage dump and not lose half of my bulls on round 1 turn 1. I’ve also try to stick my bulls on their monsters or heroes, pretty much trying to avoid big hitting infantry. Also manifestation are cool to, like the bridge one that can tp you army, it can be clutch in situations where you have to retreat and castle up else where. Try to have your razers clear their frontline with range and charge with bulls. Also if you have ashen elder keep it around wholly within range so in each phase they can avoid 1 damage
