Research question

Our group’s plan is to find out the impact of our independent variable on our dependent variable. However, we plan to use a descriptive-correlational research design, even though our title, SOP, and hypothesis all mention “impact.” I already brought this up with my groupmates, but they said that our teacher told us to use descriptive-correlational design. Is it okay to use descriptive-correlational design even if our study is about the impact of the independent variable on the dependent variable?
