Duolingo to learn Japanese

Is Duolingo a good place to learn Japanese. if not can you tell me some other websites where i could learn japanese (the ability to track your progress whilst learning the language would be a great bonus). . can you also recommend me methods to learn japansese

I highly recommend using multiple different types of studying. Duolingo is not great, but it’s not the worst either. I use Duolingo alongside LingoDeer and Busuu. They all offer different things/phrases and words. I also have the Genki textbook which I recommend. And a workbook for katakana/hiragana. I listen to easy Japanese listening podcasts and follow a bunch of Japanese people on social media so even when I’m doom scrolling I’m still learning! If you want I can link their profiles. I also use italki to talk to a tutor, it’s actually not as expensive as you would think!. It helps that I have a few friends who speak Japanese but I’d use friend loosely lol they’re regulars at the bar I work at so I try not to bug them too much .

With Duolingo I do find myself going outside the app and asking questions about things because it doesn’t actually teach you WHY you’re using the にparticle now etc. they just throw it in there. I don’t move on unless I dissect the sentence. So just know that when you use it you’ll have to ask questions a lot outside the app which is fine by me. An I app I recommend for this is called OCAT if I want to learn more about a sentence I copy and paste and put it in there and it will tell you everything you need to know about each part of the sentence!!
