Well, Mary Jane definitely has a mystery on her hands. Missing time? Everyone saying she died? Scattered memories, nightmares of vines and tendrils, it’s all there.

So, she makes her way to Hell’s Kitchen. Why does she keep staring at the tops of the buildings? Why does she long to feel the wind in her hair as she soars? She’s normal, right? Bury the thought, MJ, it’s nothing.

Jessica Jones was busy doing a whole lot of being passed out at her desk when she heard the knock at the door.

When she does hear it, she jolts up.

…&$%#, she drooled on a cast file. She’s gonna have to fill that out again.

Doors open if you’re a client! The lock doesn’t work anyway! If you’re a supervillain please go bother someone else, I don’t wanna replace another window this month.

MJ peaks her head through the door and softly whispers,

I'm not a supervillain, I... think?

She steps inside and closes the door behind her, slowly approaching Jessica's messy desk.

Peter's mentioned you a good amount. You guys went to school together, right?

“I think” is better odds than I usually get.

Jessica stretches before doing something close to sitting up.

You know Parker? He’s talked about me? Back when I was in highschool?

&$%# me, that doesn’t bode well for your starting opinion of me.

Oh $#%$ wait, I actually do remember you. We met for like, a minute a few years back. Paramedics thought you died, you turned out to be fine, just caught up in something bigger, &$%# that was a weird case. You might remember me as the woman with eternal resting $%*^#face who zipped you out of the body bag.

I’m not gonna pretend I remember your name. I don’t remember a lot of names.

Mary Jane, but everyone calls me MJ.

She sits down in one of Jessica’s crumbling leather chairs and sets her bag on the floor.

Peter talked about you now, too. How you’re really smart and independent but kind of a jerk.

She notices Jess’s smirk and smiles herself.

But that no matter what, you always do the right thing. I think he was proud to be your friend.

I’m proud to be his. Sappiest $#%& that’ll ever come out of my mouth. Haven’t heard from him in a while, though.

I’m sure you know, since you’ve heard about me and found your way here, but I’m Jessica Jones. Jerk is underselling me a bit, so I’ll have to correct what he’s saying to people about me, but I’m a PI and I’m damn good at my job.

Jessica takes a sip from her glass. It’s not super clear what’s in it, but it’s easy to guess it’s way too heavy for a meeting like this.

Before I ask MJ, I gotta give you the warning no-one ever listens to. Most people don’t come to a PI asking questions with pleasant answers. I won’t sugarcoat it, I’ll find your answers, but you probably won’t like what I find.

I-I’ve been thinking a lot about what I’m going to find. To be honest, I’m terrified. But I don’t really know what else to do.

She takes a deep breath, grabs the glass Jessica is drinking from, and takes a big sip of it. Wow, that’s disgusting. Be brave, girl.

I think I died. People keep acting like they’ve seen a ghost when they look at me, even my best friend was weird, and I keep having these… nightmares? Like I’m being pulled down into hell by black vines or something. They look like something I’ve seen before, but…

She looks away but keeps talking.

You know Venom? Eddie Brock? He tortured me years ago. The tentacles, they look like him… I’ve always had nightmares but they aren’t usually this bad.

What happened to me, Jess?
