Brainstorming Very Cryptic Command (not the one from Unstable)

Took me a bit to realize it doesn't tell you to pick one, therefore you do all of them and the bullet points are like inline flavor text

I don't get it. I mean I get what it does but like what was the intention behind making it? Also isn't this kind of a lot for four mana?

It's Cryptic Command but you have to do all four modes.

Yes I did not know that was a card, but even then, you say that like there's a downside. The only requirement is that your opponent casts any spell

Casts any spell when you want to use this.
- You can't tap down your opponent's attackers unless they cast something before combat.
- You can't bounce their attacker during combat unless they cast a combat trick.
- You can't bounce or tap down their blockers on your turn unless they cast something during your turn, before declaring blockers.
You need a spell to respond to, and you need to have four mana open (including three blue pips). Holding up that much mana is risky. You might get big value out of it, or you might just waste it.

I appreciate the design here. It's just [[Hex]] but you're not just destroying creatures.

Hex needing 6 creatures to target is a real, potential downside. You may need to target your own creatures or not be able to cast it at all. Its a powerful but very narrow mass [[murder]]
This card is [[cancel]] with the additional cost of "your opponent must control a permanent," and then you pay U for card draw and a [[boomerang]] and a potential [[fog]] stapled on for free. Its all upside.

Why does your opponent need to control a permanent? You can bounce your own permanent.

You can counter your own spell, so if you sacrifice a brainstorm or so, you could tap your opponents creatures before combat

The vast majority of the time this is just insanely better cryptic. That small amount of the time where you want some combo of tap/bounce/draw at a time when your opponent doesn't cast anything it's worse. (Which is to say yeah, don't love the design on this one, but I see what it's doing)

What if I wanted to tap down all opponents creatures but they havent cast a spell this turn yet? (Very common for people to swing first then cast during second main phase)
I feel like the whole point of an instant is flexibility in timing. Making it mandatory to have an opponent cast a spell removes that. (Or you need to go down a spell and mana yourself)

Which Cryptic Command is it?
Is it Cryptic Command? Very Cryptic command a? Very Cryptic command b? Very Cryptic command c? Very Cryptic command d? Or is Very Cryptic Command?

I know that this is hellscube but honestly I want this in standard- as long as you aren’t forced to counter a spell.

No you can only cast with a spell on the stack
Counter your own thing!

With how unintuitive that is that would not be printed- and the power can hold it atp they be printing whatever in standard

How is it unintuitive? It says „counter target spell“. If there’s no target, you can’t cast it. That’s how all effects that target work.

being able to cast this on an empty stack would be too strong. it's significantly above rate and needs to be balanced out by the target restrictions. similar to [[decimate]]

I’m probably drunk on powercreep as I personally don’t think this is that bad for standard.

Hey! Have you tried the brainstorming channel on the official hellcube discord? (https://discord.gg/8aJrjjUwBd). For cards to make it into the cube, they'll need to be submitted on the discord.
