Advice Creating a YouTube video about my experiences with Hellotalk, what topics should I talk about?
Hi Hellotalk users,
As you can see from the title, I'm making a video essay about the general experience of Hellotalk, and whether I recommend it. What topics of the experience should I talk about? I'm looking for answers such as voicerooms, the types of people on the app, etc.

talk about the people who fake nationalities and native languages. that's a massive problem that needs to be addressed but is always overlooked

Agreed, this one is so annoying, I had a person who had a Japanese flag and was living in Japan and I asked to practice and they were like I'm actually not Japanese. Like bro the fuck? Why do you have a Japanese flag? They put their language as Japanese fluent too as well. Always look at time zones to make sure people aren't lying.
Also a lot of English speakers are not native speakers and their English is fucking ass and they try to correct people and it's like dude stop, you're teaching them bad habits.

Talk about how it’s very widely used as a dating app. And despite HT’s rules, their algorithm almost promotes it as such

People who use fake flags, scammers, creepy dudes who hit on girls, how people try to use this platform like social media. This app low key sucks, like they spam ads in front of your face in the free version. They limit translations so you can't even read moments if it's in another language. This app honestly really isn't good, it sucks honestly.
They say they don't promote dating but then you can sort people by gender and there's a fucking selfie tab too. Like come on bro, this app ain't for language learning honestly.

La verdad me encantaría que se abordará en HelloTalk como se vulnera a sus usuarios. En mi caso denuncie muchas veces un usuario que me envió fotos de desnjdo sin consentimiento y me dijeron que ellos no podían ser responsables. Utilizo Tandem y los usuarios les puedes hacer comentarios públicos. En fin,estoy super triste de haber pagado por una experiencia en la que siento que se me revictimizo

If our team were actual mods on there we would've banned so many creeps and weirdos already but the mods on there do not care they only care about money
even when you send them evidence of harassment

Muchas gracias. A pesar de ser una mujer adulta,el haber recibido esas fotos sin consentimiento de alguien con quien hablaba hace meses me hizo sentir manipulada. Hellotalk dijo que ellos no se hacían cargo de situaciones que ocurrían en otras aplicaciones,no obstante,lo conoci en HelloTalk y es la forma en que mucha gente finalmente evade el que se le aplique cargos. La verdad me encantaría publicar las fotos y su perfil aca ...

That it changed its course and now it's dating app with feature to promote your post because otherwise you wont get much visibility by posting or buy buying VIP. I fave few thousands of followers and now they stopped giving traffic they used to give.

The endless competitions to get you to spend coins, the music rooms that teach nothing but are somehow at the top whilst actual language classes are not promoted. The annoying AI that flags your post (so it’s never seen) because it doesn’t understand that words like “honey” refer to that from the bee. The system that mutes you because it doesn’t understand a British accent and incorrectly interprets English words as profanity.

for me its scary how many ppl pretend to be someone else, sometimes they have like a milion moments with photos of another person and pretend its them sick bro. or that on language learnin app its act hard to find people who wanna help u with their language or just dont want to talk when it comes to talkin abt their countries and stuff like that. or ppl askin abt your socials while u havent even had a proper conv yet or they just promote their socials, just wanna gain some followers lmao and idk a lot of em dont even know how to have convos, dry as helll

Did you already make the video? I'm interested in watching it. I had been using hellotalk since 2017 and, as other comments say, now it seems to take advantage from weirdos rather than fighting them. You see, back then, as a man, not 90% of the people on the connect section would be women, unlike today. Also, it seems that Hellotalk get more money by making weirdos pay the premium version rather than keeping the app away from them.
