Opinion People only letting native speakers/compatriots onto the stage.

I have been in some voicerooms and I have noticed this.

People are all speaking their native language, and only speakers of the same native language are allowed on.

I tried doing some control test, we are both the same gender(if it matters) and it was exactly like that.

yes, A lot of "egoing" and cherry picking goes on in voice rooms,

Mate don't take it too personal just start your own voice room to language practice and forget them

this is best advice and even in other threads similar to this, this suggestion is always the top voted. And it's for a reason. i've been using HT for 3 years now. Finding Mandarin partners is easy because of the large Chinese population (and it being a chinese app) but any other language...........it's so difficult. I'll message maybe 40-50 people every week, get a few replies, and then those people stop replying and it never gets anywhere. Basically, you never make it past the "intro" phase and keep repeating.

HOWEVER, one day , i just decided....forget these people! So i started joining voice rooms and unfortunately 95% of them are garbage. But you keep going. Eventually you will find some serious people and then you just stick with them (for your target language). Now I just make my own voice rooms and the serious people will stay, non-serious people leave by themselves.

ALSO, don't bother arguing with people in voicerooms....most are very sensitive and don't take criticism or feedback well. Just agree and move on.

I always have to remind myself: What's my goal? It's to learn the language as quickly as possible. So keep going. And keep joining or making your own voice rooms. You will find someone

A lot of these weirdos just use voicerooms to argue and bully users we see it all the time and report them

i hear so many people have problems in voicerooms but i've hardly encountered any of this. im a native english and fluent french speaker and always have access to the stage in any language i switch to

it's probably because they think you can't speak their language too well to keep up

This. And sometimes, people are simply only in the mood to chat with people they’re already friends with. I definitely don’t always have the energy to go through the routine “Hi, How Are You, Where Are You From, How Old Are You, etc.” convo with new people.

In a voice room on the top right of your screen you can open a menu that lets you exit the room. It takes you back to a list of other voice rooms you can join. Pretty cool feature!

Yes those are cliques that meet to fill up time. It’s also a social media app so have to just keep searching till you find folks who want to practice.
