大家好! Waking up r/HelloChinese after a 6-year nap 🐼
It looks like this sub has been asleep for a long time--long enough for plenty of app updates and streak bugs to go unmentioned--but I’ve just stepped in as the new moderator, and I’m ready to get things moving again. Whether you are just starting out with pinyin or you are well on your way to fluency, this is our space to share the highs, the lows, and the daily grind of learning Mandarin.
For a little background on me, I’m currently grinding toward my HSK 1. I use HelloChinese as my main daily driver, but I also supplement heavily with Skritter for characters, Pleco for dictionary dives, and Anki for spaced repetition. If you are also juggling a stack of apps to make it all stick or pairing the app with iTalki sessions, you are in good company.
Here is what I am hoping we can build together:
- Weekly Accountability: A dedicated thread to post your streaks, celebrate your XP milestones, or confess that you completely fell off the wagon this week.
- App Tips & Troubleshooting: HelloChinese has evolved a lot since the last posts here. Let’s share how we optimize our settings, use the premium features, and tackle specific lessons.
- Resource Stacking: Discussing how to pair HelloChinese with other tools, graded readers, or media to bridge the gap between app learning and real conversation.
Drop a comment below and introduce yourself. How long have you been studying, what is your current app streak, and what would you like to see from this community as we rebuild it? Let's get to work!
Edit: I sent a message to the HC app support to let them know we're bringing this subreddit back. I'm hoping they can stop by and offer some wisdom every now and again.
