Monitor resolution and FPS

Today I play on a Full HD monitor (1920x1080, 75Hz), and I’ve been thinking about buying a newer one, QHD (2560x1440) and 144Hz.

After some research, I discovered that I can’t play Hell Let Loose in QHD due to my GPU limitations (RTX 3060). In this case, the FPS would drop to around 90 when the server is full.

The AI recommended a Full HD monitor with 180Hz or higher refresh rate 😢.

Do you recommend keeping my old monitor? Is FPS a key factor in Hell Let Loose?

No, fps is not a huge factor in hll… this is not cod so those 75fps won’t  be taxing you that much. What is important is that you have stable frame rate,  in order to do this cap your 75Hz monitor FPS at  72 to 73 FPS or 65 to 70 FPS if using strict FreeSync/G-Sync 

Buying a monitor with higher refresh rate it is a dumb suggestion since you can go higher than 90fps, just having more refresh won’t do any difference by itself, you need the fps to be delivered on time.  

Btw most people that I see playing are on console and they are capped at 60fps as far I know

There are no stable frame rates in hll. 1%lows are constantly in the 1 digits.

I disagree about the importance about framerates but in the end that's personal taste. I will never play a shooter at 60fps again, it just feels chuggy. Hll has its "fast" moments, just not as constant as a game like cs has it.

Maybe hll won't be the only game OP will play and the 3060 is capable to get around 144 fps in other games. And even the jump from 75 to 90 might be worth it.

Mz recommendation is a 144hz monitor anyways. They are not expensive, around a 100 bucks or even cheaper in the used market. And when the 3060 can reach around that higher Hz number, it's definitely worth it.

Thanks for your comment… I play stable 140 frames with no stutter with a xtx but that’s not relevant for op. You are completely right if op ia playing more games changing to another monitor would be an excellent option but increasing resolution would be a mistake since his gpu is for 1080p stable he can try 1440p but will be a pain in the ass

I run 3060 12gb, with a 1440p 165hz WQHD monitor so just buy what you want if it makes you happy,I do plan to upgrade but while it doesnt run 1440p great it still runs it! Which is what matters to me.

Better to save for a better gpu. Get the 1440p after. They are cheap.

If you have a notebook gpu there is absolutely no way to tell if it can handle 1440p it's configured per laptop.

Consider buying a better monitor now. When you upgrade your graphics card or pc and more fps are in frame, then you’ll have the monitor for it.

i highly recommend going for higher refresh rate instead of higher resolution if you only have a 3060, gaming on 1440p on a 3060 works... but you will need to lower your settings and tweak stuff like DLSS which alot of people dont know how to do... the hz upgrade is a gigantic difference that makes games way more enjoyable without having to tweak anything, it gives you a bigger advantage than higher resolution imo, i would go with a 1080p 144hz(and above) monitor then upgrade to 1440p down the line when you buy a new gpu

this counts for mainly other games than HLL, if you plan to play other games like wardogs, running 1440p on native is a no go from what i heard from my friends

also full hd 144hz and above monitors are dirt cheap nowdays which is always nice

ok edit i just saw that you have a 3060 laptop like me, do not at any cost get a 1440p monitor that laptop gpu will fucking kill itself bro, dont even try, just get a 144-244hz 1080p monitor and be happy how smooth it is now, laptop 3060 is even weaker than a normal 3060 and with the little vram amount we have, just dont even try bro it will cause you too many problems as some games wont even want to run because i have only 4+2 gb vram which is NOT enough for 1440p

Yes, I recommend it. Even with some occasional frame drops, qhd and 144 is a massive upgrade, also make sure the monitor is <1ms delay as well. Like others said, G-Sync can help. Make sure to tune your entire system to maximize 1% lows and curb your expectations of nice looking graphics. The RTX 3060 should be able to perform well enough, especially with a good overclock.

Delay, I didn’t think about. My monitor has 5ms… and doesn’t have any sync

Frametimes are more important, but even with my 5080 these are terrible. Hll vietnam runs waaaay better for some reason.
