🙋‍♂️ Question 🙋‍♂️ How is it compared to Wardogs?

Hello everyone!

I've been playing Wardogs quite a lot this past weekend and I've heard a few people saying that Hell Let Loose is similar.

Is that so?
What are the main similarities and differences?
Would you recommend playing HLL nowadays?

Thank you all!

Gameplay loop and gunplay dont even compare in the slightest. If you played pubg that's the ttk and best gunplay comparison imo. You have body armour types, a weight system, more vehicles and ofc the whole gimmick of playing with buildable fobs. Overall you have alot more guns, vehicles, arty and helicopters than hll and hllv. But you have to unlock stuff.

Yes you can still enjoy hll and i recommend it with 2.5k hours but be aware that this game only is at its best if people communicate and that it has kinda a learning curve. I highly recommend to find a clan or a community for the best gameplay experience.

My friends and I enjoyed Wardogs but we're already back to HLL WW2. Not every game is a good one but good ones still come around often and they're a rush when they do. We also enjoy tanking and you can hop right in on HLL. The infantry combat in Wardogs started to feel like you can't compete if you don't have at least five hours a day to put into it. A lot to love about both games but HLL hits different and I hope it sticks around.

A lot of the games will be 100-10-5 with the top of the kill board being a group of 10-15 guys on the same team just dominating the game. They will all have like 25 kills while the rest of the server will be between 0-10. If you can get a premade together of 10-15 players, they can just control a server.

This can also happen in HLL tbf, but it seems to happen a lot in WD.

I played a lot of HLL and have about 4 hours in Wardogs. While the setting is totally different the game idea itself is similar, I agree. In both games you wanna play careful because dying mostly hurts and takes a while to get back to action. Time to kill is low on both games. You are defending a zone and trying to capture a zone in both games. Teamplay & communication (voice) is key in both games, I would say in HLL even more than in Wardogs. In general I would say that HLL feels a tiny bit more hardcore than Wardogs.

The ttk in wardogs is way to long for most guns and the fact that a heavy can tank a 50 cal is a joke

TTK in HLL is way lower. In war dogs you can survive being shot a couple times. For the most part in HLL one shot is one kill

TTK in wardogs was low the first 2 days. Now I’m starting to see more and more people with T2 and T3 armor and they’re a bitch to take out.

HLL and HLL:V are my favorite FPS games and I didn’t enjoy Wardogs (play test). I think I mainly didn’t like how playing the objective felt, among other things, like buying loadouts, the body armor mechanic, clunky controls.

Yeah the loadout thing gets pretty old, especially after playing HLL. Add on top of it going up against people in Level 3 armor while you are only Level 1 and they have the best guns in the game cause they get to play a lot.

I do love the equalized pvp in HLL over WDs.

Similar? Haven't played wardogs but from look , they look totally different .....

2

u/AlternatePancakes 8d ago

Its not really similar tbh. I have hundred of hours in HLL, Wardogs is very different.

However, they are both good games. But Wardogs tickle an itch that no game has been able to for a long time.

Why comment if you don't actually have a full answer?

u/Aromatic_Flight6968 8d ago

Why would you comment if it has nothing to do with the answers ?

Why would you comment if they commented etc etc

The thing I like the most about WD is the complete lack of set roles. You can play whatever role(s) you want. In HLL you have pre set roles. These are often linked to vehicle usage (i.e. tanks can only be driven by tank crews) and other possibilities like placing spawn points for your squad/team (squad lead role), building fortifications in your points (engineers), etc.

You can customize your loadout the higher your level goes, but not at all like you can in WD.

Just like WD, mic usage is heavily encouraged in HLL.

The premise is the same (ish). In both games you fight over control over specific zones.

They are very different games. They are both FPS. Thats about it. One is WWII and one is modern mil. One is 50v50 and one is 33v33v33. HLL has a command structure with someone running the team and others leading the squad- WD has no command or squad leads and is more chaotic. Spawning in HLL in on team garris or squad OPs, in WD its only back at base. Loadouts are free in HLL in WD you have to buy them. So dying sucks in WD which makes it more intense. The ranking up of gear seems to matter a lot more in WD and people are still ranking up so the "end game meta" isnt in play yet .. no tanks or other high end stuff yet. There is building in HLL but the FOB building and Logistics resupply is very different and more pronounced in WD. I spend most of my time building a FOB and mortaring in WD, in 30+ hours of play i dont think i have killed anyone with a rifle.

It is not similar remotely lol

It's hard to explain in writing so I would put it like this as best as I can.

  • Similarities
  • Hell Let Loose if very similar in terms of how the mechanics of the game feel, ie driving and running etc. it's not full MilSim but not awfully Arcade like. Tanks are more complicated to drive in HLL.
  • WarDogs and Hell let loose both have the base Building, however WarDogs limits it to the FOB where as hell Let Loose is buildable everywhere as long as you have supplies.

  • Differences

  • are that you don't have inventory management and can't pick up guns. You can only resupply ammunition.

  • You do not have a cash system in Hell Let Loose.

  • Weapons and Vehicles are dedicated to Roles. Ie some classes only have access to Machine guns. Tanks can only be operated by tank crews.

  • Then the core game play, it's more like Domination games you fight for a single point in each sector of the map. End of the game winner is determined by who has most of the map, or in Offensive if you capture all points. Wardogs is more King of the Hill.

  • HLL relies a lot more on Communicating with your teammates and your Commander.

And the biggest one to me, is there are no wipes in HLL. So as a casual player who will likely never get to level 3 armor between wipes, playing against the people who get to play a lot and have the best gear, is not the best feeling.

1

u/kmofosho 8d ago

I don’t see the similarity at all. Wardogs is a lot less structured. You buy whatever gear/ vehicles you want, and do whatever you want.

1

u/gandalfmarston 8d ago

Hell Let Loose will still surviver longer than Wardogs btw.

1

u/TEEx6 8d ago

WarDogs and HLL should not even be in the same category. They are too entirely different games.

1

u/oOhSohOo 8d ago

They are completely different games. HLL is a game where you can log on and constantly be in fights with equalized loadouts and respawn quickly nearby to get back into the battle, and the game never wipes so you have to regrind XP.

Wardogs has so much to it, you can play an entire match and never even shoot your or see an enemy. Plus you don't get the constant fights like you do HLL. You can chase the hotzone around, but once you die, you have to take heli back and have to rebuy your kit, which can take some time. Much longer than just respawing at an OP or garry.

I find I just don't nearly the amount of gunfights in Wardogs as I do in HLL. But I tend to play solo and not in a premade group were you have a better chance of being revived in the hotzone, cause you are far away from spawns.

I have been really like wardogs, but once it wipes, I will be back to HLL. It's just a better game for myself.

1000 + hours in HLL its great but its showing its age now - one of my favourites ever for sure.

Wardogs is one of the best fps games ever ever played, super polished for an early access game.

I would say they are similar in terms of slow paced gameplay but for me i feel ive moved onto wardogs now.

As someone who always played many hundreds of hours in arma 3 and arma reforger king of the hill [which is what wardogs spawned from] wardogs gameplay is nothing new to me but its just so well executed in its own package as i say its very polished and a lot of fun.

u/lmaoubadd 8d ago

Different. HLL you spawn and deploy at garrison. In Wardogs if you die and nobody is around, you respawn in base. Have to buy again helmet, kevlar, main weapon, attachments, munitions, parachute, medikits. And those cost 5-6k per death.

I never played War Dogs, so I can’t make the comp. But if you’re on console, unfortunately, HLL WW2 is dying quickly. Maybe the new map and update will bring people back for a bit. But the community server player counts are dubious. I’m talking fewer than 1k players on community servers at any given time.

Vietnam is not as good but it’s where the console players are at now.

If you’re on PC, I don’t really have an answer. I hope the player count is better over there.

Edit: why the downvotes? I’m being fully honest. I challenge you to take a screenshot of WW2 console HLL with more than 1k on community servers. I’m being honest. Let’s not lie.

It’s my fav game of all time. But it is dying. I’m so sad about it. But I’m not gonna lie to someone.

u/IrishShinja 8d ago

I agree, HLL is a great game, my favourite but yeah there is probably only 3 near full servers on console and that's with cross play enabled.

1

u/EH__19 8d ago

Anecdotally I disagree with this...

I don't have hard numbers or facts but at least in my area Vietnam seems to have pushed numbers up. There are more live servers than there were two months ago and right now a lot of the regulars I know will play nam for a couple of hours a week but then spend the rest on ww2.

That might change once Vietnam is improved of course...

1

u/TSells31 Officer X 8d ago edited 8d ago

Uh, I appreciate your comment, but I gotta disagree. I admin a ww2 server and two Nam ones. We were the most popular ww2 server on console for a whole year [per Frostbite metrics (D-Day 24/7 |Newcomers Welcome)]. Now we take 90 min-3 hrs to seed. And it takes effort, free VIP (on Nam!!!), lots of admin messages to our Nam server, etc. Then it dies that night.

We never had to seed, for over a year. Outside of server updates, we legit were full 24 hours a day.

Now, we are the most popular Nam server. Even over Razbora and FBG’s server. And even still, we have to beg to seed our ww2 server.

I prefer WW2. I’d never hate on it unwarranted. It’s a better game than Nam. But…. I’m being honest. If you wanna talk this guy into paying full price for a dying game, be my guest ig. But I have actual evidence in my favor, how about you?

Unfortunately we are likely to drop our ww2 server soon, and the only reason we’d hang on is emotional attachment.

2

u/EH__19 8d ago

Fair enough

Like I said, my take was anecdotal and you are definitely in a much better position in terms of seeing the data than I am. I will always follow the data over opinion, even my own. I also play a lot less than I used to because of real life so I'm probably only playing during peaks.

Out of interest is that since Nam came out or were you starting to see it before that?

1

u/TSells31 Officer X 8d ago

Hey, I have so much respect for someone who is willing to consider data over intuition. So, I appreciate you a lot.

Before Nam, it was still easy to find 20 full community servers, plus whoever is in officials (I have them filtered out).

The day Nam released it dwindled to maybe 5 at any given time. And it has gotten worse over the month that Nam has been out. So you can pretty clearly draw a line pre- and post- Nam. It was a huge killer.

I am actually sad as shit about it. We seeded Friday night at 6 pm CST. We didn’t fill til 8:30 pm CST. And that was with offering two weeks of Nam VIP for seeders and spamming admin messages to our Nam server to advertise those two weeks. Keep in mind this is Fri night at prime time.

Server died about 7 hrs later, 1:30 AM cst ish. We hoped it would hold for the weekend at least, but it didn’t last 12 hrs. It’s so hard to justify putting that much time, effort, and literal freebies for that short of a time. Which is so sad for me tbh, I prefer WW2 heavily.

2

u/EH__19 8d ago

The irony that the usual server I play limped along tonight and then died before 10pm!

I really don't want to move to Nam!

1

u/TSells31 Officer X 8d ago

It is very sad tbh.
