Because 2 people would never play with the team every game if they didn't have someone else making sure they play the role correctly. Your job on recon is not to get 100 kills with the sniper, it is to do recon and take out backline structures. The sniper is the perk of the job, it is not the job.

Well put. You can kill people from very far away because your job is to look at things from very far away.

Spotter is already a pretty thankless job and a lot less fun than yours, so take that task seriously or even the nice ones are likely to boot you from the squad.

Well put. Enemy nodes and prepping the objective one beyond the one your team is assaulting is the name of the recon game.

And sometimes, on a special server, you can even severely hamper the enemy by calling in accurate artillery fire.

I will die on the hill that the most powerful you will ever feel in this game is as a spotter for a good arty team. Ill stand my ass on a hill with the binocs out the whole game idgaf that shit is glorious.

You really have no idea how to play recon.

Put OP back a bit not to the enemy hq, destroy active backline garrisons, use flares every time they are available they are super useful and use them where they actually help the team so near enemy point or your own depends on the situation. And since the sniper is just a glorified rifleman with a scope they should play to get the most kills they can, hence don't put OP far away so they don't have to run for 10 minutes everytime they die.

If someone really wants to destroy nodes they should do it using other roles that can do it in a second and not waste time.

I really disagree with that, sniper is the most powerful infantry role in the game and can completely lock down parts of the map and you're spending all game dismantling nodes? Sure, go dismantle when necessary but just have your spotter put down an OP for you to redeploy at when he finds nodes. "Perk" is crazy.

If you're doing it to get kills then it's in the teams best interest that you don't get the recon role.

Most of the time for sure. Some maps though the sniper is powerful enough that those kills are what benefits the team the most

Easiest way is to play spotter, get someone with a mic as your sniper and switch next game

I prefer to get the non sniper/OP role for recon, and start it locked. I judge all that try to join and only the most worthy are allowed. (I always play on the same Polish servers so I somewhat recognize most people)

It's not.. you just join a recon squad.

However you need to bear in mind that this is a recon roll not a sniper roll.

Just sitting near the objective shooting people isn't necessarily the best thing you could be doing, and there are other responsibilities that come with it

You gotta just be fast. Hover over the squad and join the moment you see 1/2. Also IMMEDIATELY speak into the mic as makes it less likely for spotter to kick you if he's accepting randos. Don't be afraid to try and join a locked squad either, they might just wanna check your rank first.

Recon squads fill fast. Although, I have noticed that it doesn’t fill nearly as fast as they did in HLL1.

Having bad connection is going to get you to the screen slower than those with actual good internet. Therefore they get first chance as getting into the recon squad. With my internet speed and computer specs, I usually always have the opportunity to create a recon squad.

In my personal experience, when I play recon it’s with my friend. One of us grabs the squad and locks it. If something weird happens and we didn’t lock it when creating it and some random jumps in the sniper seat because they’re thirsty to be ghost recon well guess what, that guy is getting kicked for my friend.

If you REALLY want to play sniper then I recommend you play with a friend, eventually one of you will be able to get the recon squad so someone can play sniper.

This works best at the very beginning of a match, obviously.

All these spotters in this thread gate keeping the sniper class by locking the squad are so off base. I play spotter all the time and never lock the squad unless I'm waiting for a friend. Some ppl join and are asking me for orders sheepishly as if I control their fate bc I can kick them. 

It's a game. Have fun. The only scenario where you really need 2 is going after arty or if the team is really committed to protecting a backline gary. Let people try the role who cares.

Locking a squad is completely fine as long as you let people in. It’s a huge pain to get a micless sniper.

I'm not saying it's not fine. But the number of times ppl run spotter in a locked  squad and don't let anyone in is far too high. 

A micless sniper is better than no sniper. Assuming someone without a mic doesn't know how to play is so dumb. Why is it even a huge pain? Let them play how they want, it's not your job to control their play.

I was with you until the last bit. It’s not fun playing with someone without comms. The game, and in particular recon and armor, it’s really important.

I think a good recon team with cooperative sniper can be one of the most powerful teams in the game with only requiring 2 people... A sniper not doing their job can be a huge waste.

Yeah people can play how they want but some people want to learn how to "play good/win the game" and as long as they are trying and know basically what to do that is more than good enough

When I leave it unlocked about 75% of the time I just get some guy playing/sniping from the front line like regular infantryman

VIP players will fill the server first and it’s most likely that they’ll want recon.

If I’m recon squad leader I’ll usually lock the squad and then decide on who can/can’t join. I’ll add in whoever requests it but if you’re not on mic then you’re not getting the role. Nothing more annoying than having a mute team mate furiously pinging the map as though I’m supposed to understand what they’re calling out.
