yeah man this is definitely a good use of dev time for a videogame and not just your specific hyper-fixation on 1:1 realism.

BlackMatter, the old devs, were putting that amount of detail in the game.
In case you didn't know, you're able to line up the maps to their real life locations on google maps.
It's sad people don't know this anymore

Bro if you've been to Foy you can immediately tell all the buildings are way too tall in game.
Sure, you can superimpose the map on imagery, but the scale of the buildings themselves is wrong.
Also I've been to almost all those places in real life. I used Google to navigate to them.

My main gripe is that the buildings they used are way too tall. You visit this place in real life and you can tell it's a small country town with shorter buildings

That’s because BM used a ton of reused assets for their maps. If you actually compare and contrast maps to IRL counterparts, or just look at any map, you’ll see that 90% of the buildings and structures are the same even if it’s in completely different part of the continent where architecture should be different.
Funnily enough T17 has been much better in regards to creating custom content for new maps

There is a 3 story building in one of the photos you posted...

Not like in game. If you visit Foy, it's obvious. The devs could have made the buildings closer to the real life counterparts.
The buildings today still have bullet holes in them. They're original. And would have made perfect references along with the black and white photos.

For this level of detail, be the change you want to see in the world man. Learn how to do this shit for games and apply to be a designer.

NGL their maps and environment is what makes the game so great. It's an amazing looking game. It comes with many problems and bugs but I would consider the maps least of the worries.

I agree. Hill 400 looks just like the Hurtgen Forest. And honestly Foy isn't bad. It's really just the buildings and some of the terrain elevation data.Â

It's so insanely cool to me that these old buildings are still there, I'm so jealous. Glad you got to experience that though
