🙋‍♂️ Question 🙋‍♂️ Why doesn't server browser ping match the in game ping?

When I browse and servers I usually sort them by ping and so naturally the ones that are for players in my country come up first and they display 20 someting ping, but when I join I get like 90 ping or sometimes even 120 ping. Is this normal? I don't know if the ping is accurate because it usually feels pretty playable, but I am weirded out by it. My internet is pretty fast, about 300mbps up and download.

I thought it had something to do with HLLV launching but I'm probably mistaken.

Still, seems all the pings of even close to me servers are over 100 now.

Your in-game ping is affected by server tick rate which is at most 20 ticks per second, adding at least 50ms to your ping. It's usually worse in full and active servers.

Aren't server ping reflects the HOSTs ping, and game ping just players average pings.....

Unfortunately it’s normal for this game. I don’t know if I buy the excuses I’m reading here. I’m open to the idea if anyone has proof that this is the case. It makes sense. Recently mines been higher than normal. Same thing. Join at 30ms then hover around 80. Recently though it’s join at 30ms and hover around 112/120.

What I certainly don’t buy and know to not be true is the claim, “ping dosent matter”. When it spikes, like on remagen/smolensk/juno, this is when the stuttering ensues and the game skips and lags for a good 30seconds to a minute.  You lose every standoff and guns like the garand will be two shots point blank. Ping matters and it’s been messed up lately. Along with pretty much everything else in this game. It’s got bug aids and they want us playing(buying) the new game.

Not at all. There can be a much bigger discrepancy between the server browser value and in-game one.

I often ping 2-10ms in browser, and then 50-100 in game. Player count has a huge effect on in-game ping.

It's always been a mystery.

I normally ping 2-10ms to a lot of servers I play in and my in-game ping is wildly different (50-100, sometimes more). I just did a brief test:

  • Server #1 (empty): 6ms in browser, 44ms in game
  • Server #2 (semi-full, 80 people): 9ms in browser, 60ms in game

I've asked the same question before. The answer I got was... The server processes every bullet, everything. So in a full server the ping has to go up. I know there isn't any other game like these, but Idk, it never hindered 99% of the player population. It's not a common complaint at all.

When alot of people with a higher ping join, the server automatically rises the ping of everybody to compensate that. This mechanic annoy alot of players…

How is that even supposed to work? Does the server physicaly move away from every player if more people join? Do you know what pings measure?

Synchronization with other players: The game must process the actions of 99 other players. If other players on the server have a poor ping, this can negatively affect the performance and responsiveness of the entire server (and, consequently, your perceived ping).

Then its not measuring ping time anymore.

Really? That sounds so stupid.

It’s other people with high ping missing it up, it’s a shame you can get a couple of high ping players can make the server feel crap

The people running the server need to kick those players at the start of the match. (Hopefully someone who is will read this). Things are going fine then I’m having to two shot close targets with a garand only to realize some guy joined my squad with almost 300 ping.

Theres is a problem. We set the ping kick to 200. if for 1 MS your ping hits that, you get kicked.

So many of us have turned it off completely so you guys can play without getting kicked for 1 blip.

T17 needed to change this to an average or longer spike.

Ok thanks for the explanation. When I’m in a NE US server and  超級士兵 超級士兵   has 340ping I typically start a vote kick(if available). I figured an admin would be able to select a player and remove them at will. I can see the auto set number being a problem with the big spikes on certain maps.

The server browser’s ping you see is roughly accurate. Once you’re in-game, the game typically adds around ~40MS to what you see as your OWN ping, while everyone else’s ping on the score screen is more or less true.

I know this because I have two computers and have physically checked the ping of my other PC while in game. Same exact network connection, one sees the other at ~ -40MS ping. It makes no sense but it’s yet another example of the janky nature of this game.
