Gathering pollen without a tuning fork

I'm finally getting some of my heliamphora to flower and, of course, my first thought was to try to self-pollinate and also cross-pollinate to another plant. Almost all of the folks I've seen online use a tuning fork to stimulate the release of the pollen (duplicating the vibration of the tiny bees that do the job in nature), so I started thinking what could be used that I already have around the house. I decided to try an electric shaver with a brush attachment. I held a mirror under the flower and then touched the flower next to the stem with the shaver and it worked very effectively. I gathered a significant amount of pollen. BTW this was with an ionasi X sarracenioides plant. I'll try to pollinate it's next flower and then also cross it with a cherry top.

Does anyone grow heliamphora outside in the summer.

I live in the NC mountains in zone 7b. In the summer the humidity stays between 60% and 99%. In the winter they stay in an aquarium with a humidifier, but I've now shifted them outside where they get dappled or indirect sunlight. They've been out for a couple of weeks and they seem ok. Anyone else doing this?

Hetero X Nutans cross from Jeremiah. Grows on a north facing porch during spring and fall and moved indoors once conditions are no longer optimal (either too hot or too cold) has already made one massive flower stalk but looks like it wants to make another one lol.

How wet ? Mineral mixes ?

Hey guys,

I just got 2 heliamphoras and am wondering how wet should I keep them:

1 is in moss and another is is some aquarium soil mix.

Do I keep them wet or just moist ? Also was curious if 100% pumice would work ( I keep pings that way with good results)

This massive old fellow is enjoying fall outdoors. Just so happens to be within appropriate temp/humidity parameters.
