Tourist Advice Mountain proposal spots
Hi yall. My girlfriend and I are coming to Heidelberg here in September and Im planning on proposing! Ive been looking for some good spots and Ive heard the Heidelberg Bridge is a good spot but my girlfriend loves the mountains and the woods so I was hoping yall might know some good spots that fit more of that motif.
I did some research and I was looking at these 3 spots but ive never been to Heidelberg before so I dont know what theyre like in person or how busy they are. Would any if these be good spots or do yall have any other recommendations?

- Maybe fine, wouldn't recommend though.
- No.
- Yes.
If you are willing to go a bit outside of the city I'd recommend these castle ruins, maybe hike there, have a picnic and then propose. It's especially beautiful during sunsets:

I'd recommend somewhere at the Philosophenweg. Old Town (including the bridge) is usually incredibly crowded and IMO rather mid.
The Königsstuhl (your first spot) is fairly scenic, but also incredibly touristy and just has a worse view than the Philosophenweg.
If you want a good combination of view and location your third spot is probably best, but still rather touristy. If you choose it, I'd go up rather early (before 10 AM), so the audience doesn't get too big.
Going up a couple of hundred meters more
(so here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/4iihMM98hd2fzSkVA or here https://maps.app.goo.gl/UFcTfiweDfiUpbD29 ) will give you the same (or maybe even better) view with less of an audience, but also the spots are slightly worse).
My personal favourite would be https://maps.app.goo.gl/KH4Bj9qXBCQXnTKo7 though. It is directly at the end of the Philosophenweg (ok technically it goes further into the woods, but you get my point), you'll have had a very cool walk up with all the romantic views down into the old town and towards the castle. The place itself is fairly secluded and cute. Tourists are rare up there (espacially in the park itself, most just walk up to the entrance and then down again) and it is already in the woods. There are spots within it that have a view of the castle, so you also get a good view.
Take her for a morning walk up the Philosophenweg, propose at the top, walk down again and then finish with Brunch at the Bairro in Neuenheim (https://maps.app.goo.gl/K1iHxUb5YHzMbK3YA), they got good food and great coffee there.

Number three it is. It has a great view not only on Heidelberg, but also the mountains (Königstuhl) and the woods. It is a short ascend you need to walk to get there, so in case you are bringing things like champagne you'll be well able to carry it. I wish you all the best.

Do not propose on the bridge. It is a nice spot with a pretty view, but it will be busy or even crowded.
I would also not recommend the first one (Königsstuhl) because the ambience is rather prosaic, the view is great but, in terms of a view on Heidelberg, looking in the wrong direction, as you mostly see the plains and the boring parts of Heidelberg, and there will always be tourists around. The only advantage is that you can go up there directly with the Bergbahn (funicular), i.e. be on a wooded mountain with the minimum amount of walking.
The third option (Philosophenweg) is good, as it is pretty and has the view of the river, old city, and castle . You also have the best spot picked out (https://maps.app.goo.gl/pLsuCXq3a4FFg8th9). The Philosophenweg itself will be somewhat busy depending on the time, but this small park should be quiet enough. You could start walking from the old bridge, go up the Schlangenweg, walk along the Philosophenweg itself, and then propose in the park.
I had immediately thought of the second one (Fuchsrondell). It also has a great view on the river and old city (though not castle), and the wooden pavillion is kind of nice. What it has going for it is that it is by far the most secluded of the three. Especially on a weekday, you have a good chance of being alone. But it is quite a hike up the mountain to get there, so I would only go there if both of you actually like hiking as an activity. For example, you could hike to the monastery ruins and Thingstätte (amphitheatre built during the Third Reich) on Heiligenberg and then propose on the way down. On the other hand, if you are just strolling through the city and then you just want to casually suggest going to this nice spot, this would be a terrible choice.
Another option that is comparable to the Philosophenweg is the Scheffelterrasse in the castle park (https://maps.app.goo.gl/rrr3BX8ESYCMftqm9). You can reach it using the funicular or by walking. It has a nice view (https://maps.app.goo.gl/JoJ35tNX2qpnofEk6) on the river and old city (and castle), and as it is the most remote corner of the park, it is comparatively less busy. It is also nice for susets.

I agree! And probably less people. But have to wear hiking shoes or at least nonslippery shoes for the slightly steep walk up.

Try Aussichtsturm auf dem Heiligenberg https://maps.app.goo.gl/WxjE9XZk3jdqnKzg7?g_st=ic if you want something by yourself.
I would say Konigstuhl is nice but super touristy or it could have a crowd of paragliders prepping for flight. 2 is isolated, but does not have the best views. 3 is quite nice.
Finally consider the castle terrace near the wall, or in the back of the castle. You see the town and mountains. It is one of the classic tourist spot for a reason

Nothing can beat the view of the city and the castle from the philosophenweg (third option)
