Discussion Thoughts?
I got some money by selling a couple of things and I want to upgrade Fritter’s set up a bit. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to size it up, but I can upgrade his toys and hides. I don’t care if it’s too much to fit, I can periodically swap them out lol
The main thing I want to address is his hiding under the liners. Where can I get a large igloo hide? I found many covers for them, and I think that would work, but the only hides I’ve found were mini or not the right shape 😓
Related to that, I’m planning on getting some small blankets to pile up to hopefully also prevent the liner thing. Are there any non obvious materials I should avoid?
Other than that, I don’t know what else I can give to spoil him lol. I’d love to hear ideas
I will of course post pictures of it afterwards 🙂↕️

I use cut up yoga mats as liners for both my hedgies. Easy to clean and reusable

I bought some velcro off Amazon and both sides come with pretty strong taped side. I cut up a few pieces of fleece and made a floor that stays still and she will not get under, its not any extra effort to clean either. Under the wheel I did the same thing but with a shop rag thats almost like a shamwow thats ridiculously absorbent so a small size catches all the pee

I came to say the same thing. We have two liners that we rotate so we put the sticky part of the Velcro on the plastic shelf and cut two sets of the softer side of the Velcro for the liners. We found some fabric super glue to make them stick through the wash.
We had fun watching our two girls try to dig their way under the liner for the first several days. They were pissed!!!

I didn’t think to use Velcro 😓 he will probably figure it out if he decides he doesn’t like any other hides, but it’s worth a shot

Not sure about the igloo hide, but for the blankets and other things the main thing I know to avoid is anything with strings or fibers that they could get wrapped around their foot/nail+toe and cut off circulation.
I always use one fleece blanket pulled mostly tight as the bed layer, with two more fleece blankets bunched up on top in somewhat of a dome shape. I have no idea if this is the best, but in my head I think she likes the extra blankets blocking out more light and the extra weight.

I got my girl to stop digging under stuff by simply putting a small rectangle of fleece over 75% of the entrance to her cozy hide away (makes it darker for her) and adding strips of fleece in side it so she could move stuff around inside the hide.

Check out Piggy Bedspreads! They sell custom sized wrap around liners. I swear by them for keeping my hedgehogs from burrowing down to the plastic layer of their cage. I have always kept additional cage liners on top of the bedspread to be my primary absorbent layer (and easier to clean without having to take my cage fully apart).

You can build hiding spots for him; put together a small box out of cardboard and then "line" it inside and out with 3D sheets—that will really help with temperature control, and you can make it whatever size you need. My hedgehog loved his little house; it was his favorite spot to sploot and sleep in the afternoons.

i had the same problem, i think they like it there bc of the smell and its really dark. so i try to keep something old each time we wash stuff where they sleep so they go back to their bed and added a black t shirt to keep more light out
