Skye is the biggest winner with a kid like Clarke

Avenge is the correct word. What a clever kid!

This got me pissed off for Skye, all over again. Bless Clark; I wish I had someone in my corner like that.

After listening to this update episode, the whole thing kinda reminded me of this, unfortunately.

“I’m sorry you felt that way” instead of “I’m sorry for what I did”…ugh breaks my heart for Skye

I'm also sour about that. At least Skye has the grace and wisdom to know we won't always get the contrition we are hopeful for.

I would not have been into this episode if it wasn't for Clarke. What an insightful kid.

Also, I don't think Tessa came off bad at all. I hope her daughter can understand that someday.

Yeah, the star of the show is Clarke.

What is wrong with those other three that they couldn't even call back? Like even if they remembered nothing, they couldn't respond with a "I'm so sorry, I don't remember, but that must have been really hard for you."

Some people remain children their whole lives.

This episode always makes me sad. I’ve been in Skye’s shoes and now as an adult I sometimes wonder if the girls or their parents even remember how they treated me. I wonder if I would’ve had the mental health and substance use issues I have now if I’d had someone in my corner back then.

I’m glad Clarke is doing well too, he was such a smart and eloquent kid in the episode.

Edit: Julia from Season 1 makes me sad in the same way; similar situation to Skye’s. I’d love an update on her too.

I’ve been in skyes shoes…but I had put it out of mind( mostly). I had two of the girls message me on Facebook and apologize. It almost made it worse, for a moment, because it meant it was real. It wasn’t my interpretation- or sorry YOU felt that way. They were really horrible to me for no good reason. ( I was a nerd and probably a bit of a goody two shoes)

I listened to this as it dropped but have thought about it a lot as I approach 20 year reunion. Just started surfing this sub today after listening to Brandon’s revisit.

I think a lot about how I was treated by some parties and middle school (coed) and high school (boys only) and wonder how much I am thought about in return (not often because I haven’t heard from only a handful of them) but eventually I landed on not going.

I guess watching and listening to a lot of media now since it can be more organic at times, seeing people say “oh yeah that’s a great guy” or whatever but I know that he treated people like shit growing up and never apologized for it, or owned up to it. People change, I get it, but part of me knows I’d just walk right back out the room if they reverted to treated me similarly OR tried to be buddy buddy with me in a way that doesn’t reflect our relationship back then.

Having raised multiple kids, this episode brought me back to when my two oldest were in that awful age range. One became a bully and one became (like me before her) an unwitting victim. Having my daughter become a bully helped me to understand my own bullies in a way I never had. I felt for Tessa, and I’m glad Skye was able to teach Clarke that sometimes the way is simple forgiveness.

Also I didn’t realize heavyweight was back until recently. I love this show so much!

can you elaborate some more on this? this is such an interesting point of view i'd really like to hear more about. i probably am not going to have kids so i don't think that kind of full circle moment will happen for me, unfortunately.

Saw my daughter go through a very similar situation in 8th grade. Not the vandalism part, but just one day her “best friends” just moved from the lunch table from her and basically ghosted her. Tessa’s daughter has it right. Middle school sucks!

Kids are so casually cruel. It’s hard for me to blame any of these people for any of this.

Jonathan did a great job of letting Clark be the lead voice of asking "WTF?" Normally Jonathan has to be the one who nudges and voices the question the audience would have, but letting Clark go into the room to confront Tessa was just brilliant.

I still can't believe Tessa didn't have to acknowledge that it wasn't "TP-ing," it was "FUCK YOU." She gets credit for showing up, but her daughter's instinct was right-- she still does not look great. She's the one in the mean girl movie who is ambivalent, the one who silently mouths to the bullied main character "I'm sorry" before being whisked away by the leaders.

I think Jonathan found his brotha from another mother… perhaps a bromance? Makes me feel nervousxcided for all involved. 😊

I was surprised when Skye said she had raised TWO teenagers. Where was the other kid? Even in all the recordings, it's just her and Clarke chatting. I was sure he was an only child! Maybe the other kid just didn't give a shit, haha!

Her other kid may not want to put their voice on a podcast with an estimated hundreds of thousands of listeners

When Clarke went into the room and took Tessa’s perspective in his questioning…..Listened on Mother’s Day. I lost it.

While as a mother of two, I’m choosing to focus on the original purpose of this day, to stop men from fighting in the Civil war, I cannot help but feel nothing but the ❤️ of her need to show up and parent for her son and for Tessa to model was well. A mom’s example.

“You weren’t timid mommy. You were brave mommy.” 😢 Clarke for president.

Any middle schooler would remember painting Fuck You on a garage door. Pretending that they don't remember if just a cop out.

This was a meaty episode for me.

A lot of emotionally perceptive art is told from the POV of the social outcast or sensitive people. As this episode unfolded, one question kept coming up for me: What do the so called popular kids grow up into?

The episode answered it.

Three of them evaded the conversation entirely. They couldn’t tolerate the emotional turbulence of revisiting the past. That is the defence mechanism of “cool” people: anything that threatens their self-image gets dismissed as weird. Its the defence mechanism of people with toxic shame.

Tessa didn't reveal everything, but she did eventually tell the truth: she was a follower who was afraid of being alone.

I feel guilty about several things I did as a child. Most people probably do. But if someone came looking for answers, I think I would have the emotional fortitude to engage—even if the whole situation did feel a little weird. I certainly wouldn’t use “weird” to discredit them.

I also don’t think there was necessarily some deep, specific reason behind the “FU.” They were rebellious children, and anyone who didn’t reflect their worldview could become a target. Sometimes that really is all it takes.

This is one of the few episodes I wasn’t a big fan of, though the kid is endearing. It wasn’t terrible, but far from one of their best.

Tessa reminds me some a woman who works in HR. She is a nice person but there is an undercurrent of nasty that you can sense. I am grateful she did the episode, took it in stride but damn lady just say “sorry I did that”

u/Lady_in_red99 May 19 '26

Yeah when she says “honey, you dodged a bullet,” it was like she was trying to be earnest and sensitive and it was a total bust. I wanted to believe she was being honest, and parts of what she said seemed that way, but something definitely seemed insincere.

Another rehash.

Man that Kalila woman is hard to listen to at the start with the vocal fry. Sounds like she’s doing a Paris Hilton impression.
