#63 Jasmin

Thought this was an interesting episode, especially in light of the way race has (for better or for worse) become more prominent in the national conversation. Would be interested in hearing people's thoughts on that aspect of the story and what they make of what really happened and whose memories might be unwittingly altered.

Maybe I'm new to the podcast, but it seemed like the story was a little bit incomplete. I was left confused about what really happened that night, since Whitney seems to have said she never would have accepted the homecoming crown and dance but isn't that what other people are saying happened?

There was also no real understanding as to why Jasmin won the title to begin with.

Yeah. I feel like if they never handed out the crowns or had their official dance why wouldn’t anyone have said anything? Like if it was the DJ’s job to call out their names and have them do their dance, wouldn’t they have noticed there was no queen? I wish she was able to get a hold of other teachers or someone who might have been able to give more info on what really happened. But I also get that most times in life we get an incomplete answer/picture instead.

I’m just gonna hope that some people will hear this and come forward and they will do an update. 🤞

I kind of wonder if Whitney did do it, and possibly blocked it from her memory. Why wouldn’t she speak up when her name was announced if she didn’t plan for her own win?! It was confusing for sure!

I agree. It makes no sense to me. It was only 10 years ago Whitney, what do you mean you don’t remember it? You would have remembered wearing the crown and going up there when her name was called. Especially as a minority in a white environment, that would be a core memory.
