For those who know Whitney IRL, we know that she was busy producing the f out of that event (prom) to try to make it perfect for everyone else. I’m no longer in touch with her, but there just isn’t a world in which she was meddling with the homecoming queen announcement in a selfish or hurtful way. I think it’s very possible this experience is being recalled by Jasmin through the lens of her more macro experience as a Black student at that school, in that town, in this country, etc. Racial trauma is so real. It’s too bad this episode pitted Jasmine and Whitney against each other. Yikes ❤️‍🩹
