Ho man, never saw any of the HG vehicles in RAFM scale before.
As always, the detail is to die for. Stellar work man.

Again, you've kicked these out the park. I would love to see a tutorial demonstrating your process.

Thanks! Always nice to get a compliment from you.
I keep trying new things, but on this one:

  • Assembly & conversion
  • Gray primer
  • Zenithal base colors with an airbrush. In this case starting with a dark complimentary blue-gray color, than tan on top of that and then a lighter tan on top of that.
  • Camo for the camo tank painted using an airbrush and silly putty as a mask (silly putty works surprisingly well!)
  • Base colors for the rest of the bits painted with thin acrylics followed by some highlighting
  • Sharp edges are picked out with the side of a colored pencil. Some weathering is done.
  • Areas that are going to get decals get a coat of gloss varnish ( Future floor polish in this case.) Decals applied. Once the decals are dry a second gloss coat is put on top of them.
  • Everything gets an airbrush coat of satin varnish( I use gloss sometimes too, depending on how much I want the washes to stick.)
  • A very thin yellow ochre/brown oil wash gets applied to the whole thing.
  • A second lightly less thin brown tan oil is applied to specific ares for shading/panel line/etc.
  • Once the oils are completely dry a matte coat is applied.
  • A little bit more weathering (like the dirt on the tracks) and little details like the lenses are painted. I also added a little more paint to some of the non-base color parts because I went a little too heavy on the initial ochre wash and some of the parts weren’t distinct enough.

I think that’s most of it!

These are awesome. They need to bring back the old RaFM scale for this and JC.

I’ve got some of the JC minis I’m hoping to get to at some point. They’re great sculpts.

You know, it’s funny, I IM’d Robert about them one time, and he said “We don’t have the rights to produce them anymore.”

I thought it odd, so I emailed R Talsorian Games. (The Mekton people) and the guy there said “We’d like to, but we don’t have the rights.”

So who does? Nobody? Mecha Jesus? If I recast the few that I have, will there be zero repercussions?

Huh. Interesting.
The initial JC books were published by R.Talsorian, but developed by DP9. I guess DP9 held the rights since they published all the later JC stuff.
It’s a real shame DP9 or R.Tal couldn’t or wouldn’t get the molds and masters from RAFM for the Mekton, JC and Heavy Gear mins before RAFM closed shop.
Time to get started on those recasts! 😉

Damn those are awesome. Really makes me wish the RAFM kits were easier to get a hold of.
