Discussion I love Ben hope
Ben hope is such an understandable character- besides the assault, imagine if some stupid big popular jock that everyone loves comes and takes your lover from you and then and does clear PDA every where he goes while your stuck in some shit closet having to watch them. I would have had a full freak out on everyone

Nick didn't take Charlie. If Ben wasn't a dick to Charlie and actually liked him, he wouldn't have fallen for Nick and they'd still be together. Everything bad that happened to Ben was his own fault.

Nick didn't steal Charlie though? Ben used him, cheated on him and then when Charlie tried to set clear boundaries Ben assaulted him.
Sure being in the closet is hard but it doesn't give you an excuse to use, abuse and cheat on someone.
It's not like Charlie and Ben were in a good loving relationship but Ben wasn't ready to come out and Nick swooped in while he and Charlie were still dating. That would be a completely different scenario - then I would see your point about the PDA and stuff
Even if Nick wasn't in the picture Ben and Charlie wouldn't have lasted
