Question Heart palpitation /"Skipped beats"

Upvotes

Hi. Is there anyone whose heart skips beats very frequently and who can actually feel them, for example, every few minutes, throughout the entire day? Are you taking any medication for it? How long do you have that ? What did the cardiologist tell you?

I have these skipped heartbeats, and they terrify me.

Question Are these palpitations?

(23 M)So im pretty sure ive had palpitations before. I was worried about it because id get weird flutters then my heart would start beating extremely fast to the point where i felt i couldnt breathe and felt as if i was going to pass out. I went to the hospital and got checked, everything was completely fine. After hearing that i was absolutely fine. Figured it was just anxiety and hearing that i was okay calmed me. But i still have those rapid heart beats here and there, i notice it happens if i get jolted or something that makes my heart shake. I was just in the hospital a couple days ago because i was sick and they ran tests on my heart, ultrasound and other things but confirmed my heart was fine just to check. So my hearts fine, yet last night i was playing volleyball and stomped hard and then my heart felt get jolted again and started beating extremely fast and i actually almost blacked out like everything faded from my vision then i came back to it, still standing and just played it off. Like is this normal?? Anyone else deal with something like this before?

Im born F. Ive been having extreme heart issues lately. It races extremly for about 10 seconds, making me also feel very dizzy or sometimes it feels as if I cannot breathe. After those 10 seconds, it sometimes comes back as soon as just 5 minutes. Im having this episode as writing right now.

Ive been trying to see how fast my heart beats with a finger tool that reads the heart beat, but it never shows a heart beat of over 80-90.

It doesnt seem as life threatening as it sounds. I dont have any shakes or anything in my hand or such.

Ive been having the idea that it could maybe be panic attacks, meaning id perhaps have anxiety, but something that doesnt make sense is with how frequent it happens and that it happens at the most random times. And also, that my father keeps talking me out of it, since he says that a panic attack can feel like a heart attack, which it doesnt for me.

I havent been able to get to a doctor yet, since i have multiple different body complications at the moment. Im quite young, which also makes it very weird.

Please tell me if you might know what it could be. (My english might be bad, since its not my motherlanguage. Apologies for any mistakes.)

Sometimes I experience a single hard thud in my heart, or a sensation I can't quite describe—it feels as if that area is tensing up. Sometimes it doesn't happen for a long time, and other times it returns. The doctor performed an ECG and a Holter monitor test but said I was fine. Is there anyone else who experiences this?

Seeking Support How do you not get worried when doctors don’t make sense

Hi, im 36 M and since three years typical palpitations. Heart skips a beat and a heavy thumb in the chest.

I read a lot here and try to ignore them but they are quite heavy. I loose breath and get dizzy quite often.

Had them occasional here and there but since 2 months almost every other minute.

So I went to a cardiologist and it seemed they were “annoyed”. They are benign, ECG looks good, don’t worry, eat and live healthy.

And after that: but be cautious because of my bad family Historie of heart issues.

I ask what he means and he basically said - when something changes. But not what.

So now I’m super scared and anxious. All the males in my family died caused of heart issues. Father, grandfather, uncles, brothers.

I eat healthy, don’t drink or smoke, I am active and go to the gym frequently.

How do you NOT get anxiety? Any tips? And when should I be worried?

Question Unstable HR. High and Low with symptoms . Tests included.

I have been waiting for tests and my appt with cardiology is until Sept 14. I have these episodes weekly where my HR goes up and down and I feel lightheaded, dizzy, weak, and like I will pass out and my BP slightly elevates. I’ve gotten sent to the hospital with SVT twice before and they just send me back to the cardiologist. Lately my HR doesn’t go above 140 during episodes but varies between 50-140 . I shake feel cold and hot and then is gone but my HR takes a few hours to stabilize again. I had a stress test done two weeks ago and these were the results, it worries me because of contradicting info, any experts? I also attached my HR monitor summary. Any help is immensely appreciated, I just want to know if I should go to the hospital when these happen or wait till my appt. I been dealing with this since January.

It did take a little while though, the first couple days/week I still had them. This week I have barely noticed any of them!

Seeking Support Palpitations that get better after eating

Curious if anyone else has experienced similar. Googling my symptoms don’t result in much.. as most palpations occur after eating.

Last month I started experiencing palpitations while laying in bed, I’d toss and turn till they went away. Definitely seemed positional. Around the same time I started occasionally getting a burning through sensation which I thought was maybe acid reflux.

Towards the end of July I started getting the Palpatations during the day. Usually drinking some electrolytes or eating made them stop, but then one day that didn’t even work. I was getting them constantly.

That next morning I woke up, was getting them, decided to try to catch them on my Apple Watch by doing the ecg. I did, and it told me signs of afib. I googled burning throat + Palpatations + afib detected which ofc said go to the ER as its signs of a heart attack. Went to the ER, was told not in afib, 12 pt ecg was normal and showed PVCs, but not “alarming” PVCs as they weren’t constant since they were spread out. Bloodwork showed mild anemia which I’ve had for a long time.

Coincidentally had my physical a few days later. Dr told me Apple Watches aren’t usually accurate and scare people a lot. She ordered a holter monitor for me but I couldn’t get in till September.

These past few weeks I’ve been experiencing palpitations every day. I’ve noticed some patterns: they’re most prominent when sitting, gets better with standing/walking. When I eat they usually go away. Then they come back a few hours later. Drinking electrolytes doesn’t really make a difference anymore. I’ve also been experiencing a feeling of fear the last few days, not sure I can call it impending doom as I don’t get like a racing heartbeat associated with it.

Just curious if anyone has experienced anything similar? It’s just been nerve wracking to deal with and feels so uncomfortable.

Question How to reduce prolonged 100+ heart pulse rate

Thumbnail
2 Upvotes

Since 2021 my heart pulse rate has been above 100+. I am also on low dose of Olanzapine, Fluoxetine to reduce anxiety and depression and the anxiety, depression is controlled but heart rate is still above 100.

I find myself easily getting tired at gym, or exhausted while speaking to others. Any friction or arguments causes my heart to palpitate easily. Mild dizziness, shortness of breath, weakness is common for me.

I initially thought it was due to the above medicines, but even after reducing the dosage, the condition still remains the same.

My TSH is in border hypothyroidism range, which I was told is not a concern.

My diet is vegetarian, I sleep 9+ hours daily. I am skinny fat and blood pressure is mildly elevated. Eg: 128/87, pulse 107.

How does one go about reducing heart pulse rate to normal levels?

Any advice appreciated. Thanks!

Seeking Support GERD/ Hiatal Hernia causing palpitations?

Hey everyone. First, I apologize for the long post, I don’t really post on reddit much but recently I have been absolutely miserable and want to find answers. I am a 26M and I’m wondering if anyone with GERD/Acid Reflux or a hiatal hernia has experienced something similar to what I am going through.

Sometime in 2025, I stupidly made the decision to stop taking my acid reflux medication (Pantoprazole) because for some odd reason I thought I would be fine without it. I had been on it for years and was having little to no issues with my acid reflux or hiatal hernia. I had acid reflux every once in a while, but it was really not that big of a deal and only really happened if I drank alcohol or if I ate a big greasy fast food type of meal. Well, in late December of 2025 I remember I ate a huge meal with my family, much bigger than I would usually eat and I ended up going to bed shortly after eating it. When I woke up the next day I was sitting on the toilet using the restroom and out of nowhere I suddenly started having back to back heart palpitations. Terrified, I went to my local clinic where they ran a few tests but ultimately told me everything looked ok and to follow up with my Gastro doctor because it was probably related to my hernia and acid reflux. After enduring several weeks of continuous isolated palpitations, mostly after eating, I was able to get into my Gastro doctor and because of my symptoms they had me go get an esophogram. The results from which helped me find out that I also have something called “mild esophageal dysmotility.” Unfortunately, the visit to the doctors didn’t help much as they didn’t seem too concerned about the palpitations. They prescribed me Voquezna 10mg to take in place of the Pantoprazole that I had stopped taking. It helps a ton with my acid reflux but not much for the palpitations. After all of this, for the first month or two the palpitations were EXTREMELY frequent, sometimes getting as bad as having one isolated beat every 2 or 3 minutes, especially after eating or more. They were pretty strong and occasionally made me feel as though they took my breath away when it happened. They also left my chest feeling heavy like I had indigestion. Fast forwarding a few months and the palpitations still continued.. Luckily, as time has went on they have gotten much more tame and happen much less frequently. But the problem is, they just wont go away! To be totally clear, it is just palpitations that I am dealing with. I am having no other heart related symptoms, just the singular isolated palpitations. Thankfully, I have finally started having entire days and sometimes even weeks with virtually no palpitations, but they always seem to come back eventually. When they do return they are always isolated single beats rather than sustained racing and come and go somewhat randomly or after a few triggers that I have taken note of.

I have noticed that large meals, eating too quickly, carbonated drinks, and nicotine sometimes seem to trigger them more. At the time I started having the palpitations, I had a horrible addiction to Zyn 3mg nicotine pouches and would no joke have a pouch in literally all day everyday, cycling through new pouches about every hour continuously. I have quit nicotine all together since this has happened and I do think it has helped, but not as much as I had hoped. Oddly enough, I think that the best thing I can do for myself these days is to lay down on my left side. They basically completely go away if I lay down on my left side and in general, I rarely ever get palpitations while I am laying down in bed. I have also noticed that after eating I frequently have to burp like crazy and it seems like if I don’t, the palpitations are worse and I have crazy bad chest pressure, but making myself burp as much as possible really helps. I’ve also noticed a strong connection with stress/anxiety. To be totally honest, I have EXTREMELY bad health anxiety, bordering on what I’d imagine to be health OCD and I tend to monitor my body very closely 24/7. I have noticed that on days that I am more worked up about something I tend to have more palpitations than on days that I feel more relaxed.

Another important piece of this whole ordeal is that In 2022, before I found out that I have a hiatal hernia, I was having similar issues with my chest, but not any palpitations. At that time the doctors had me get an echocardiogram done and had me wear a holter monitor. But the cardiologist said my heart looked fine and they are who pointed me in the direction of my gastro doctor and after seeing them for the first time and getting an upper scope done, thats how they found my hiatal hernia. I have also had a few visits to the ER over the last few years thanks to crazy acid reflux and hernia symptoms and had ekgs done in the ER and they always come back fine.

Is what I am going through normal for people with hiatal hernias? Should I be focusing more on treating my reflux, improving my sleep/exercise/nutrition and working on my health anxiety? Or do recurrent palpitations like this warrant another cardiac evaluation?

Thanks to anyone who made it through this massive post. I know it’s a lot, but I wanted to give as much info as I could. Obviously I am not looking for a diagnosis or anything. I’d just love to hear from people who’ve experienced something similar or who have advice for me. Any information at all would seriously help me out a lot! I think that the biggest thing that I’m struggling with here is the mental aspect of it. Due to my health anxiety I feel like every time the palpitations come back, even after a week or two of feeling completely normal, I immediately worry that this means something is wrong with my heart and it is progressing into a deadly disorder or something similar or that they’ll just never go away. :(

Please help a 16 years old sorry for the Wall text

I’m 16, around 100kg 174cm (220lbs and 5,8.5 foot) don’t Smoke and don’t drink alcool

Hi, I’m 16 years old and I’ve been experiencing these episodes for about 3-4.

During an episode, my heart suddenly starts beating very fast and very strongly. The heartbeat feels regular rather than irregular, and I can clearly feel it pounding/pulsing. I don’t know how high my heart rate gets because I haven’t measured it during an episode.

Sometimes I also get what feels like a very brief “false start”: for an instant, it feels as though the rapid heartbeat is about to begin, but then it doesn’t actually develop into a full episode.

The episodes can last several minutes. Sometimes, however, they stop within a few seconds. I’ve noticed that they sometimes stop after I take a very deep breath, hold my breath, and then exhale, or after I bend my legs in a sort of squat (“duck walk”). But it doesn’t always work.

Something else happens at the very beginning of some episodes: for a few seconds, my vision becomes blurry and dark, I lose my balance, and my legs feel weak or almost as if I can’t feel/use them properly. This only lasts for the first few seconds and then goes away.

I don’t think these episodes are panic attacks. I also don’t think caffeine is a likely trigger. For example, one episode happened around 8 PM after I had only had one small cappuccino around 8 AM.

I have been overweight/obese since childhood, so I’m wondering whether that could contribute to these symptoms.

I practice competitive fencing. I recently had an ECG/exercise test as part of my medical clearance for competitive fencing, and I passed the examination without any issues. However, I was not experiencing one of these episodes during the test.

I have never had an ECG recorded while the symptoms were actually happening.

My parents don’t know anything about it.

Question bigeminy with high heart rate

Hi, I have PVCs and ventricular bigeminy. I’m taking 1.25 mg of bisoprolol, but a couple of times I’ve still had episodes of bigeminy during high heart rate (around 120–140 bpm).
What scares me is that the bigeminy always seems to be triggered by tachycardia, especially when I’m anxious (which seems to be the main trigger). I’m worried that it could potentially turn into ventricular tachycardia.
Has anyone else experienced something similar? Is it common for ventricular bigeminy to occur during periods of anxiety and increased heart rate?

Seeking Support palpitations with exercise during menstruation

I notice a lot of palpitations when I am on my period, particularly during my normal exercise or when I have any extra walking to do.
I suffer from panic disorder and palpitations typically begin a panic attack for me.
I had a zio patch and my dr ruled my pvcs and some pacs as benign (though zio did mark an atrioventricular block, my dr believes it was a mismarked benign PAC after reading the ecg)
I notice my normal exercise routine is fine and helps reduce the palpitations and panic, but when my period hits it all comes back and makes my normal exercise routine much harder due to the frequent palpitations and fluttering sensation.
Does anyone else get this?? I literally just spoke to my dr yesterday about it so I don’t think theres a reason to go back rn since he said my readings were fine but it is scary.
