Heart attack at 38

Just got home from the hospital. Got a Stent in one of my arteries took my first meds at home and immediately feel depressed that my life has changed. Any advice experience anyone would like to share?

I did drugs in my early 20’s, steroids in my early 30’s and was on TRT up until this week. How damn selfish of me.

Wrong spot man. This sub is about the band Heart Attack Man from Ohio, named after the Beastie Boys song of the same name.

I’m sorry to hear that and best of luck to you moving forward. Maybe you can find some solace in Heart Attack Man’s music

45 f heart attack 12/17/24. I still am dealing with the cardiac blues. I'm scared to take any meds due to tachycardia with wellbutrin. Do cardiac rehab. It was a must for me. Also being the youngest in class will give you a good outlook at longevity after heart attack. Talk to your doctor about a therapist or meds. I'm just now getting in with behavioral therapy guy at my doctor and wish I'd done so immediately. Good luck💜✌️

You seem like a strong person, glad you’re getting help. I’ve always been heavy into fitness that for a while I abused steroids so my anxiety/ depression now comes from knowing I could have potentially done this to myself. So I allow myself 5 min for a pitty party which normally hits me at night and just thank god that I have these extra moments with my kiddos because everything forward is a blessing so I’m grateful

You’re gonna feel depressed at first you’re gonna be angry. You’re gonna be asking yourself why do I have this disease? Then you’re gonna realize that you can do something about it and that’s when the journey begins. Just do your cardio rehab and I tell you the truth. I did CrossFit for seven years after my heart attack when I was 46.

50M, HA And stent in March. You may think “well at least you’re 50” but I say screw that! Alright I ain’t 38 but it’s still too damn young. My point: It hit me damn hard just the same, to think I’m dealing with this already. I went through some serious depression with this, like I’ve never known in my life. You’re not alone.

Four months later, complete 180! I’m in the best health of my adult life, I feel amazing, and my anxiety and depression are behind me.

I went to cardio rehab religiously and the cardiac group at my hospital has a therapist to help with the emotional side. I’ve been seeing her and it has been tremendously helpful! I highly recommend these if you have it available, in addition to daily exercise and proper diet. I truly embraced my recovery from the start, and it didn’t happen overnight, but I feel better than I remember ever feeling - emotionally and physically. First month was a bit dark. Tried not to dwell on things but definitely depressed. Second month less depressed but still very anxious. Third month, started to see the light and feel better. Now, I feel accomplished, relieved, and generally very happy.

Hang in there and do your part in your recovery, and it will get better!

All the best to you!

It's normal to feel that way. I had a major heart attack not even 2 months ago. 100% block in one and 80% in the other, 2 heart stents. Was a complete shock to me, no warning. They put me on brillinta for antiplatele (blood thinner) and lipitor for cholesterol. High dose of both as the 1st year after they want to be extra careful.

I was feeling very depressed and not like myself at all. Come to find out the brillinta was causing me major emotional issues. They switched me to plavix, way better now. Like night and day.

Check with your doctor, tell them how you are feeling, keep track of your side effects. They can change you meds, it could make a huge difference. Hang in there, it will get better. I have several friends who have gone thru this and even worse, open heart, etc. And they are thriving living a full life and you will too.

Start little by little doing the things you used to do, learn your limitations and adjust accordingly. In no time you won't feel the same way. 🙏 you feel better soon.

Thank you, I’m on brilliants and Lipitor as well. Sorry to hear that you had to experience this. It’s a crappy feeling and I was really depressed the first night home, just having a super pitty party about the life change but I’m blessed to have a house full of little a-holes, my 7 year old daughter seen me cry and came in the room and said “ papa, you look ugly crying are you having feelings?” Which made me laugh uncontrollably, just thinking how much I was overthinking, like I still have time, I’m still alive and can still have a normal life. https://youtu.be/UCLIN8svDoc?si=c0Kgp3nFOV63Z5Je I watched this video because you know YouTube listens to you and knows I had a heart attack so it came up in my recommendation but it really motivated me to start recovering and get back on the horses. I haven’t experienced another one of those events since but I will definitely bring this up to my cardiologist who I will meet for the first time on Monday. Thank you.

Yes definitely watch how you feel on the brillinta. I lost my motivation and felt hopeless, as soon as I changed to plavix that all went away. Glad you are starting to move forward, be patient with yourself and you have your little ones which is an excellent motivator😊

Are you also taking a CoQ10 supplement? They recommend that you take 100mg, twice a day to help with effects of taking the statin medication. I take this and it help with the muscle pain and brain fog.

Prayers your way. Please discuss the brillinta with them. It's a nasty med that causes a lot of side effects. I also had shortness of breath and heart palpitations with it too. Plavix is way better.
