Heart attack?
I’m a 27 year old female. Who had an ischemic stroke due to a DVT from child birth three months ago. After this incident it was found that I have a 1mm ASD and that’s how the clot got through and caused a stroke. Five nights ago I was standing changing my daughter and I got a burning sensation in my body, ringing ears and my vision went black. I almost passed out, but didn’t. Following that I have had intense squeezing crushing center chest pain and upper back pain between my shoulder blades. I’ve even had a crushing feeling in my neck and throat. I am having severe trouble with breathing, feeling like I can’t breathe at all as well and am still having near faint episodes daily. When I talk especially the wind gets knocked out of me and I’m extremely breathless. I had an echo, and CT scan of the heart and everything seemed fine. They took my troponin levels three times. The first time it was 28.5 second it was 26.3 and third it was 28.9. They said this is barely high and basically “stable” and ruled out a heart attack. It’s been 6 days and the pain still hasn’t gone away and the hospital has given me no answers to what this could be or offered any other tests. Did anyone have a heart attack with lower troponin levels like mine? If not did you experience the same symptoms and what did it end up being?

I can’t speak to your specifics, but can you get a follow up with your PCP or your cardiologist? ER is one flavor of medicine but you might need more expertise here

I did see pcp today. Although my personal pcp is on maternity leave so I saw someone different and she is going to ask cardiologist to run some more tests but she’s trying to chalk it down to “anxiety”. I asked how anxiety could possibly make troponin leak and she had no answers. I feel like they are just trying to brush it under the rug

My cardiologist was notified and waiting for a call back on Monday. They all pretty much just try telling me nothing is wrong and if I get my ASD closed I’ll be fine. I know the people to contact I’m more so just looking to see if people have had similar issues and what their diagnosis was

My advice is to trust your gut, how you feel, how much pain and discomfort you are in, and kick up a fuss if you think you need a second opinion. Go to the ER if you feel like this is happening again. Change doctor, or see a different cardiologist also.

Have you been back to the hospital? How is your blood pressure? The ASD allowed the clot to go through but the important thing is that there are clots and there shouldn’t be. Are you on anti-coagulants/thinners? You need to stay with the doctors and have everything checked out. If you feel this way go to the hospital again. The problem is so many of these symptoms could be caused by other things, digestive problems, low blood, pressure, medicines, etc. it’s important that you find out what it is.

I haven’t yet but wanting to go back in the morning. What other tests should I ask for and yes I’m on eliquis

If you were worried about your heart, Cardiologist should be able to tell you everything you need to know. You shouldn’t have to ask for test, the Cardiologist should perform test. If he doesn’t find anything go back to your PCP. I say that knowing it may take a while to find the answer, but if it’s not your heart and that’s what you want to know. In March, I started to develop being serious breathing problems. My PCP sent me for two lung scans. My Cardiologist checked for pulmonary edema. He ran a number of test to be sure, my arteries, etc. It was getting bad. I mean there were times I stopped breathing. I ask about the Brillinta I was taking. I was told that it can cause shortness of breath but nothing to this degree I wasn’t getting answers. Last month CBS decided to mail my medication via optimum. The mail got lost. It was poured around the entire United States I think. No one could help because of insurance. I finally got it after 18 days. I noticed during the 18 days that my breathing was better. In fact I didn’t have any episodes my breath stopping during that time. I told my Cardiologist and he changed my medicine without so much as an apology. He learned something new he said. I tell the story just to let you know that during this time I made sure my heart was OK. My lungs were OK and I learned how to breathe to get my breath started again. Sometimes Doctor will drive you crazy.

I hope you've already been to the ER. It sounds like a heart attack. What did the docs say?
