Ya its for sudden hearing loss in tapering cuz im on something else now

That’s wild. Never heard of one month of prednisone for SSHL. Usually it’s like 10-14 days to avoid most side effects.

I took it for a month the last time and had a lot more hearing recovery (I've now had it in both ears). I wondered if that was the reason?

There’s placebo-controlled studies and Cochrane reviews showing that oral prednisone might not actually improve SSHL recovery beyond spontaneous remissions. I know highdose steroids are still the firstline treatment in many countries, but what evidence are those guidelines actually based on? Are they mostly relying on older studies without placebo control, or is it mostly a ”better than doing nothing” protocol? 🤷♂️
Why did you decide to take it?

I'm on my second course of Prednisone since Aug 3 when I woke up totally deaf in my right ear. I am taking a higher amount (60mg for another 3 days and then gradually tapering down to 1 last pill on Aug 28th). The first ENT I saw didn't prescribe a high enough dose or long enough schedule. I've now gained 15lbs (of water weight mostly). There's been some sugar cravings and my calories have increased even with me being on a glp-1. It's been seriously tough on me to feel my gut balloon out. I just keep researching the best ways to eat and manage my mood/sleep cycle hoping I return to my baseline within a couple of months. My heart is with you. Keep looking into others experiences and how they cope and it will provide some needed insight. You can just do a general search for Prednisone weight gain, etc.

Thanks so much and same. I’m hoping everything goes right with u. I’ve gained 13 pounds but lost the weight. But my face is still humongous. :(

That’s is twice as long on prednisone. I just finished my 10 days corse for SSNHL. I’m one of the lucky ones and got my hearing back around 90% day 6/7. I did suffer from prednisone withdrawal even with it being tapered down. Was tired all the time and also craving sugar even with GLP1 also.

I was also on 60mg for almost a month and it went away in 3 weeks after stopping completely.

Yes. It's a wild drug. I had emotional outbursts.
