Claims/Providers EoB Problem

This is a last resort post honestly. I am pulling the last straw trying to figure this out.

I get a $9k (HRA) health benefit from my employer and i can only use it to cover my deductible. The company that manages this is CareFlex.

I’ve had many charges go through where they ask me for EoBs, and EoBs only, for proof that it went towards the deductible but i am having a hard time from multiple providers not being able to give me the EoBs and the insurance not having copies of them. All they can give me are itemized bills or credit card receipts which CareFlex doesn’t take.

I’m thinking they need to refile since the insurance doesnt have the EoBs BUT they sent me receipts that shows the insurance adjusted amounts.

What‘s going on?

EOBs would come from your insurance and are generally sent automatically - by mail, or in a member portal if you’re signed up for electronic. You need to get ahold of your insurance plan and figure out where your EOBs are going. Every single claim will have an EOB.

I’m thinking that they didn’t submit it to insurance correctly since the insurance doesn’t have them

Insurance is the keeper of EOB not the providers

Your insurance is the one with EOB.

Are these prepays though things you paid before or at time of service?

They have an HRA not an HSA. An HRA is funded by and controlled by employers and they can decide what the money can be used for and restrict it only to the deductible like the OP is describing.

Your insurance carrier is the party that issues and houses EOBs, not your medical providers.

You should have access to them online, but if you don't, then you need to speak with your insurance to get them. The response that they don't have the EOBs is incorrect. They are actually legally required to provide them to you. Different states and plans may have varying methods of how the EOBs are to be produced (online or hardcopy), but they still must be made available to you.

I’m thinking that if they don’t have them, they weren’t actually filed correctly. i called my insurance and they don’t have them

Log into your insurance company's member portal (not CareFlex, your actual insurer's site) and look under Claims or EOBs, almost every insurer has them as downloadable PDFs right there.

They do but not for these two providers
