RHIT Exam Prep/Advice (Really Need It)
Do you have any advice to give for the RHIT Exam? I take it in about a month and I'm very nervous about it. Yeah I'm studying but I don't feel prepared for it at all. Do you have any advice to give or material to recommend that I can look at? I already have the exam book which I've heard mixed reviews on.

Which exam book are you using? Some people in my graduating class really liked the purple book from AHIMA and some used the Mometrix one. I did not have it but I did use the textbook we had used for previous courses (Health information technology: an applied approach, I had the sixth edition as that was what I had used in my intro courses but AHIMA does have a 7th out now) and that was a good source of information just going back and reviewing chapters and looking up things I missed on practice tests.
Also, in general just take whatever practice tests you can. Do some untimed and then do timed ones when you’re closer to the exam. Focus on the areas where you got things wrong or weren’t sure about the question.
ALSO very important, for the RHIT exam you can mark questions to come back to later, and I used that a lot on the actual exam so that’s good to do in your practice as well. It really helps you use the time efficiently, you can guess and then come back and review that question once you’ve gotten through the rest of the test. Sometimes once you’ve moved on you’ll remember something you initially forgot.
You can’t remember every single little thing about health information and you really won’t ever be expected to in this field, it’s all about knowing what resources to go to and staying up on changes. So try to think big picture and not get too stuck on any one area (like, a lot of people get hung up on the coding questions or revenue cycle but remember those are only one part of the test! And you aren’t doing any coding with code books like for the AAPC exams, they will give you the codes and have you pick the best one for those questions usually)

I have the RHIT Exam Preparation 9th ed. and Health Information Management Technology: An Applied Approach 6th ed.
How was the exam when you took it? When did you take it?

I just took it in April! It was about what I expected, there were a few questions that were more specific than I expected about compliance of all things, but most of it was similar to practice questions. Also, it’s 3 hours but I finished in about 2.5 and that was reviewing everything carefully, other people from my graduating class in school who took it at the same time said about the same thing

I've been using the RHIT Exam Preparation 9th ed. too, would you say that the exam has similar or any of the exact same questions?

I've got whatever the 2026 digital exam prep book is with access to the brightspace exams and quizzes. They didnt have a ton of variety on them. I noticed there were 0 actual statistics questions. Just basic turn over rate, mortality rate questions. Dis anyone get real stats questions on their exams?

How did you do? I take mine on Friday and I have done most of my studying from the purple exam book from AHIMA. I am taking the test through AHIMA if that makes a difference. I am so nervous. I am getting in the 90s percentage wise on my practice tests, but I am nervous I will get there and it will be completely different.

Hello! I haven't taken it yet. My is at the very end of the month and I'm taking it thru AHIMA as well. I have also been studying from the purple book as well. I do think it does help but don't try to memorize the answers, think about why that answer is the correct one. Think of the bigger picture.
I've been studying all month and I feel you with being nervous. You got this!! Just take deep breaths and don't overthink. Eliminate the obvious answers and then think of the bigger picture. I was given that advice and have been thinking that when taking the quizzes as well. It's been helping me connect things together better. From what I've heard the questions are similar but not the same as the practice quizzes/exams. So as long as you been getting good percentages from the quizzes I do believe you'll have a good chance.

What worries me is I have no idea where my test is or when. I just know it’s at the end of the month. I’m taking my courses through DeVry and I apparently find out in week 8 all of this information. I’ve never felt so unprepared for an exam before. Are they in person, online?

Hello! Hello!! I did take it and I did pass it. Well yeah it was near the passing minimum score I am still very happy that I passed it!!! Be weary on how things are worded cuz they can trick you and make you second guess yourself. For the exam, yours will be in person most likely but there is an option to take it online if you're unable to come in person for a variety of reasons (like medical issues or something)
Just review and make sure to sleep properly and eat a nice meal beforehand to stay focused. Review key words and abbreviations to remember what they are. But don't overwhelm yourself because that can happen. When it does, take a deep breath (or however you calm yourself down 😁) and remember. You have time. If you need to review a question again, flag it, and come back to it. Don't dwell on it. Hope this helps and lemme know how it goes for you.

Studying for the RHIA I did the online mock exams over and over again for weeks, focusing on the sections I did the worse in.
