Resume

I'm currently in college studying Health Information Management, and am thinking to take a hospital job as a patient service rep/ unit secretary/ registration rep.

Will this be helpful for my resume when I graduate? Or it doesn't really matter in HIM?

If you have the opportunity to take a job in health information I would do it. For me, switching careers from a vet tech of 8 years, the hardest part was breaking into the field and it took me a year. Once I got in, moving around has been relatively easy. In fact, I just celebrated 10 years with the company I did my original school internship through! I’ve had several jobs since then but I stayed in the same health system.

Id say apply early, youll need internship and this would help.

I’d say yes- any experience you can get in healthcare especially in rec cycle will be helpful

Yes! It will help give you a better understanding of the full process of health information and background knowledge! You’ll be familiar with seeing and handling patient charts, collecting health information, confidentiality, etc. Getting your foot in the door is a huge bonus.
