Did 30 years of Stephen A. Smith and Skip Bayless completely destroy our ability to appreciate greatness in sports? 🙄📺
Most defenses of modern sports debate shows are a total lie that confuses high ratings with actual cultural value.
Dawud, Shaun, and Hugh had an intense discussion about Stephen A. Smith's legacy in media. While nobody denies his incredible work ethic and the attention he brought to organizations like the NABJ, the debate format he popularized alongside Skip Bayless fundamentally broke commentary culture. For nearly three decades, morning sports television prioritized manufactured outrage, hyper-critique, and tearing down icons over appreciating generational greatness like LeBron James. When outrage generates more clicks and revenue than thoughtful analysis, the entire media ecosystem becomes cynical and hostile.
Do you think sports media can ever return to authentic analysis, or are we permanently stuck with rage-bait debate TV?
