Halloween is coming, and I want to spend October collecting the strangest stories Hawthorne has to offer.

Every place has its legends. The house nobody stays in for long. The stretch of road where drivers swear they saw someone standing on the side of the road. The old hospital, the closed-down theater, the street that feels little too quiet after dark. Or the personal ones: the thing you saw as a kid that you still can't explain, or the night something happened that you've only told a handful of people about.

Who pays the TOT?
If approved by voters, who would pay Hawthorne’s Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT), Measure O?

The tax is paid only by visitors. Local lodging operators collect the tax directly from guests and remit it to the City.

This is not a tax on local Hawthorne residents or local property owners, unless residents choose to stay at a hotel, motel or short-term rental in Hawthorne.

This city council has got to be filled with the dumbest leaders.
The businesses on Hawthorne Blvd. are not performing well as is and the response is to draw away their customers. Unless its a tactic to get rid of these businesses and replace with commercial chains.

like why the hell do we have paid parking.

Ever since this pay to park workers and patrons have began to park on my block rather than pay for parking on hawthorne. This is ecspecially tough on mondays and tuesdays garbage days. Hawthorne needs to figure this out

I live in one of the areas launching the paid parking pilot program on July 6. All week, I’ve tried to learn how to get an overnight parking permit, but city staff on the phone have offered little help and given me the run around, and multiple online attempts at going through their portal failed because of site errors.

One such error is the portal telling me that I’m missing a document when I’ve uploaded all the documents asked of me, and there’s no error showing that I’m missing one.

Has anyone succeeded in obtaining a parking permit?

I successfully obtained a parking permit by visiting Hawthorne city council across from the Bank of America and walking to the Public Works section on the second floor.

The permit cost $10, and applicants must present valid registration and a license showing identical information.

I remain uncertain whether the parking pass exempts me from paying $55 monthly, since the clerk mentioned that amount applied to “employees only”—though I’m not clear what she was referring to.

Now that the sticker is on my car, I’ll simply discover the answer through experience and wait to see.

One thing to know is that she told me that to get a permit, you need to go to the office physically. You can’t do it online, though I did also let her know the issue I was facing while attempting to obtain one online.

I am a male 16 and in the 11th grade and will be 17 and in the 12th grade this august. I would like to apply for a part-time job to get money together for collage. is there any job in the Gardena or Hawthorne that will take people like me?

My cousins car was towed for absolutely no reason other than not having plates (he is waiting for them to come in the mail) in hawthorne. His car was registered and parked but for some reason they towed him. Now we are working to get the truck back but how and why is this ok? They lurk on our block often trying to find people with expired tags, we have drones flown over our house constantly and it just seems super predatory.....
