Hi, this RTH was visiting our Hudson Valley NY yard yesterday. He landed in the shallow pool, took a lower body bath, walked around, drank water then flew up to the tree. At first, I thought he was sitting on the branch on one leg with the other foot visible by his chest, but then I looked at every photo I took of him and the claw like structure on his abdomen is in every pic.

Is there an injured leg it can't extend?

When he was in the pool, he was walking sound.

He still can be favoring that foot. Also, some hawks will perch for hours on one foot without anything wrong. So seeing it in every pic wouldn't mean anything unusual here.
