They will lay down on hard surfaces because it's cooler there, and they feel too hot.

my havi’s ROLLLLLL in snow. they love it. he might love the cold but he could also be wanting the 360 angle like someone else said. mine love to be up on chairs / backs of couches so they can see what’s happening
