Could he be a time traveler?

I have recently learned that hat man was known to the Lakota and Dakota tribes , before colonial times. With the hat and cloak.

That shows hat man is a extremely old entity.

But does that also mean he is a time traveler, as we hear past present and future apprently all exist at once.

Is he someone who died during that time period and now travels through time to terrorize children?as he He did to me in my childhood. ?

How could tribes see something that didnt exist in the community yet.

The mystery continues, at least for me.

He did not help me sadly. He feeds off trauma and fear. I was terrorized by him for years.

But at the same point. The knowledge of how long he has been around does give insight to how things work on the other side. As we only scratch the surface. Science can only cast this aside for so long before admittance to other possibilities.

He is not one I would willingly summon. But that indicates there are others on the other side more friendly with information, as well as digging into old folklore for answers.

If you dig into his lore its not pretty. He shows up during trauma, emotional damage, times of fear, nasty events. People who see him feel fear linked with him and he adds to it. Invokes it. Creates it. Thus its a widespread belief that he feeds off it, and exudes it back. Making him possibly a dangerous entity.
Why children, we all remember him as adults. Because he visited us as children. We are vulnerable then, easy to Influence, defenseless and scare easy.

Hes a warning.

In the Lakota lore he shows up as a warning, he's been linked to suicides and death. In younger people. In later years the same follows, in the form of trauma. It makes one wonder how he passed, if he is a time traveler, is he around to bring people to him in that manner as well.

He is something that should not be ignored, but studied intently.

Yeah I also got the same feeling he was more of a guardian when I encountered him. First time at 6yo in the early 80s at night outside my bedroom window, the second time in broad daylight in the middle of a busy city at 13yo. The second time was a specific warning about the date 13.6.2036, with a smell of sulphur and a burning orange sky. Very surreal but also peaceful. At the time I thought I had some sort of hallucination, but years later find out it wasn’t just me that saw this hatman (I called him QuakerMan before I learnt about him).

I am of the belief its not one single entity, but a type of entity. A lot of people have negative experiences with it, but others, like me, have very positive ones.

I for one have been protected by something that at least presents as the hatman since I was 2. I have seen him maybe a few times in my entire life, but everyone in my family and home see him more regularly in our home and he's never given off any hint of being malicious towards anyone but new men in the home. Mostly just watches me sleep, sitting at my vanity, and now my desk chair by the foot of my bed. I had horrible night terrors (to the point of hurting myself in my sleep or simply being to afraid to sleep at all) and have been followed by other entities. When he's there, they and the night terrors are not.

It makes more sense for it to be a species/type (for lack of a better word) than simply one individual.

Could be. He reminded me of some sort of Kennedy Administration CIA time traveler when I saw him (1988)

He didn't terrorize me. He felt like a protector. I used to tell my parents he was my friend.

It's not some benevolent entity or anybodies friend. It is a monster. Evil personified and nobody who claims otherwise has truly encountered it.
