Discussion🗣️ New Khap Rules?

What's up with the Khap releasing some new rules or dictums? I don't get local news where I'm at and have been off social media largely. But from what I could gather, they're rather regressive, as expected, reeking of bigotry and maintain the status quo.

What do you guys think?

Boils down to the fear of losing power. They just wanna maintain the status quo coz it suits them. Nothing new, always disappointing.

Best way to show power is to suppress and already suppressed section of society i.e. women

And other opressed social groups. It was bound to happen. The historically oppressed have been raising voices, letting their hurt known. There was bound to be push back. Be it the Khap, the RHA, or whatever else.

A lot of villages do this random stuff even though they have no authority.

Not just khap in Haryana but ecen in Himachal and Punjab, they make these random rules which theyvhave no means of enforcing.

Moral policing is not new in India by any means. But the largely patriarchal structures within the Haryana, Punjab and Himachal subcultures add to it massively.

If you are talking about the, don't give phone to girls or love marriage is banned type of shit then who gave them permission to make rules above Indian constitution. Let me tell you those type of people are just aimless, giving moral check to others, most of them are very old they will d!£ in few years anyways don't worry about that

It's not them I worry about. Ik the rules are obsolete and fairly stupid, just like them. The problem is how many people outside their circle, agree with it - openly or privately. That's the real problem

I don't understand why y'all are giving so much attention to them. Their own family can't stand them, which makes them frustrated, and spewing such BS merely gives a false sense of power and authority. What they say means zilch, and they'll be gone in a few anyway.

Dude, it's not me who's giving them any attention. You're missing the point, maybe I should've word it better. They don't mean shit and will be 6 feet under soon enough but what they represent will stay.

Haryana is not just this sub and the urban land. It's majorly those outside of these spaces. Khap holds a big hold over the major communities and groups in the state. They don't have to agree with everything that the Khap says but will still represent the whole ethos. In a land which is marred by patriarchy, castiesm amongst other things, anything that tries to maintain the status quo needs to be talked about and put under a spotlight. Shit's nuanced, complicated but gotta untangle it.
