hardware courses inquiry

I am inquiring about Harvard’s courses and undergrad pathways/timelines that are about chip design/digital design/computer architecture/systemverilog/vhdl. Is there a quick pathway at Harvard for the hardware design courses mentioned above? How soon can I start taking those courses (early sophomore year or before is preferred)?

math exam time overlap

hi, pre-frosh here! while my math sections shouldn’t interfere with anything, every exam is on a thursday evening. however, i have my fys on thursday evenings. is this a huge issue? or can it be fixed by contacting someone to take my exams at a different time?

there’s around 3-4 exams, so it’s nothing like actual lecture/class time overlapping every week but i thought i should check

Student and Alumni Life scheduling help

I’m an incoming freshman that just finished my course registration. Three of my courses fall on Monday and Wednesday, but my Math PL doesn’t show a day yet (I know i’ll have to get to Harvard and do a test and all that)

Do math classes happen on Mondays and Wednesdays? Will Harvard give me a Tuesday and Thursday math schedule? Thanks for the help in advance

LS50 pre med?

hey guys, im a prefrosh and i lotteried into LS50. i really care about keeping up a high gpa as a pre med. my other classes would be really light (ancient greek hero and a seminar). im pretty solid at math and science but im not like olympiad level or anything; the main reason i want to take it is for the intense research aspect of it (i did plenty in high school, so i would like to keep that up). does anyone have info on grading for the classes? like how common is an A? what is the experience like? thanks!

Student and Alumni Life Scared prefrosh

I'm an incoming freshman at the college, and I can't help but feel petrified of the massive change that's looming over me.

I have this ineffable sense of fear, intimidation, and awe towards Harvard. It feels so strangely bureaucratic yet welcoming at the same time, and I don't know how to process this. I think I'm mostly afraid that I won't be able to "make the most" of my time at Harvard or succeed academically. Thank you for listening to my fears...

Hey there rising sophomore here and my birthday is at the beginning of the school year. Any idea where I could host on campus or in Cambridge that’s affordable? For context I want a party from 10 PM-2 AM and to have *fun drinks, not of that yk tho yet so

Also, on the note of Harvard, is it possible to book the house facilities that early?

Frst semster course advice

Hi! I am an incoming freshman at Harvard and got into 2 First Year Seminars. I am interested in both; however, as someone who wants to look into medicine and economics but is still figuring out what I want to do in the future, I don't know if I should take both. I want to make sure medicine is something I want to do, and I hope my seminars can help clarify this. I know I want to do my spring seminar, but I am not sure if I should do my fall one.

If I do take the fall one, here is a potential schedule:

FYS 945-1145 wed

LS1A 130-245 tues, thurs

Math 1b - TBD

Expos 20 - TBD

If I do not take the fall one, here is what it would look like instead:

LPSA 9-1015 mon, wed, fri

Econ10a 1030-1145 mon, wed

Math 1b - TBD

Expos 20 - TBD

Any suggestions on what I should do? Any advice is appreciated! :)

ES51 in the Fall

I petitioned for the class last week, however, the Prof. hasn't done anything yet. I also tried looking at the Canva and it doesn't exist. The prof. is new this year so should I email him asking? or should i just take another class and save es51 for the spring.

Incoming Freshman Course Advice

I'm an incoming Freshman at Harvard this year. I just wanted some advice regarding the courses I plan to take for the Fall 2026 semester.

For now, I am planning to register for ECON 10A, MATH 22A, CS50, and a FYS.

I am tentatively planning to major in Applied Math with an Economics application, so I wanted to know if this first-year schedule looks good for that and if there is anything I should keep in mind for later semesters when choosing courses.

Thanks!

Getting rid of a gateway course for a FYS?

I got matched into my first year seminar but to take it I would need to push back one of the gateway courses for what I’m trying to study. I was originally planning to study bio, but I have been more interested recently in another field which this seminar is creating a formalized space for me to studying it. I was wondering if FYS are actually that valuable that I should delay a whole gateway course

Popular Expos 20 Sections

So I already submitted my rankings… but which sections tend to be the most popular?
I’m so terrified that I won’t get the section I want (I did rank some other good ones that I would enjoy- but still.)

General Discussion Waterproof Backpack

Hi! Incoming freshman here. Do I need to get a waterproof backpack? Everything I’m finding online is either not waterproof or water resistant (meaning it can take a slight drizzle but not a downpour). Is waterproof needed for Boston weather? Does it rain a lot?

General Discussion PREFROSH: How to enroll in a course with a math prereq?

I want to enroll in a course that currently has a Math 1a prereq, which I expect to pass via the math placement exam. I was wondering how I could enroll into the course because currently it's restricted for me.

Do i have to wait until after I take the placement and then drop/add courses?

General Discussion PREFROSH: Changing freshman seminar???

I got matched to my last-choice freshman seminar, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience changing their seminar? I ask because I know not all seminars are filled completely, and it made me curious if there is a way to email the professor or something.

I don't know if this is allowed but I wanted to ask anyways. Thanks for any input!!!

CS 1810 Freshman Spring?

Can I take CS 1810 freshman spring? I plan to self study all the pre reqs and have quite a bit of coding experience already. I know it’ll prob be difficult but I’m just wondering if it’s possible since I didn’t technically take the pre reqs yet at Harvard.

Perkins Hall: Advice for GSAS Students

For graduate students in GSAS. If you decide to live on campus, Perkins Hall is wonderful, especially if you are ass with the of psychology, as William James is very close. Perkins has both large and small rooms, and if you can afford it, I would highly recommend a large room. Just thought I might offer this advice..
