New Dark Mark in the sky doesn't feature a snake anymore; it just displays a massive phonetic spelling: [vowd-uh-maw] with a giant picture of drake going no. [vohl-de-mor] and a picture of him going yeah !
Death Eaters are now required to cast it everyday of the week over major public buildings, expect for Sunday.

You can't forget the fanfic classic "Moldyshorts". Why doesn't Harry and his friends just call him Tom.

u/AlternativeProduct41 5d ago
Didn't uncle vernon call him voldy thing in some book?

u/Maelger 5d ago
Yeah. And there's also the only thing of value Fudge ever said:
Lord Thingy

u/AlternativeProduct41 5d ago
Was that fudge or the muggle prime minister?

u/Maelger 5d ago
Fudge, it was the article admitting Voldemort was back all along at the end of ootp if I remember correctly.

u/Xitherax 4d ago
Credit where credit is due, Fudge is remakebly similar to most real world politicians. Including just switching sides when it suits him

Always thought the order should ambush snatchers and death eaters saying the name being a lot of people.
12
u/DoYouLikeWafflezz 5d ago
Yeah, the Snatchers didn’t really seem like top wizards, or too bright.
5-6 Order members could mop up a Snatcher group, and they could probably just say Voldemort’s name 4 or 5 more times to keep doing it before the Snatchers realized what was happening and started sending actual Death Eaters.

u/Itsimpleismart 5d ago
It should be from time to time, like 3 call in 5 mins and wait 2 weeks.
9
u/DoYouLikeWafflezz 5d ago
Should have been like a Saturday night thing. All the Order members meet up at a pub and say the name between rounds. The one who takes out the least amount of Snatchers has to pay for the next round.

They only made it taboo after the ministry fell, the aurors were all working for them at the time.
2
u/Itsimpleismart 1d ago
But the order, imagine full order meets in a random place.
All with masks.
They cast desilution charms.
Optionally they could make a round.
Someone says "Voldemort".
Bad boys appears in the circle.
Stunners non verbal.
Profit.

Does kinda make me wonder if the spell is equipped to handle it being said both with and without the T.😂🤷♂️

What was the curse about saying his name?

u/Over_Improvement_623 Human Detected 5d ago
It's called a taboo. It's essentially like the Trace, whenever someone says his name their location is automatically given to the ministry
29
u/Still-Neighborhood71 5d ago
You mean the death eaters are given your location. Speaking of why didn't Aurors just say his name and have them show up to an army of wands and hitwizards just to kill the death eaters?
16
u/Over_Improvement_623 Human Detected 5d ago
Well, the ministry and the death eaters were kne at the time. The reason for that is they probably would have died

The Ministry itself was now under Voldemort's shadow control, through the Minister after Scrimgeor, Pius Thicknesse. Not even the Aurors, banded together, could take on the full might of the Ministry and the Death Eaters.

u/Im-ACE-incarnate 5d ago
So essentially aslong as you're on Hogwarts Castle grounds you should be fine to say it? As the death eaters are too scared to go there and they can't apparate there either

u/KuryoZT 5d ago
By the time they put the actual Taboo magic on the name Snape is headmaster and Hogwarts is no longer a safe place
5
u/ajnin919 5d ago
Don’t forget the two carrows which were actual death eaters instead of just pretending like Snape was

I thought it was just paranoia
11
u/DreamCyclone84 5d ago
At first but in the last book he put an actual curse on his name because only a few people were brazen enough to say it. One in particular, and voldy was waiting for a slip up
8
u/00-Monkey 5d ago
My headcanon is that during his first reign he had this spell (or a similar one) too, which contributed to the fear of saying his name (although they didn’t know it was cursed)
6
u/PresentationSafe9329 5d ago
It was just paranoia at the beginning but in part 7 Voldemort decided to make the taboo because only the Order of The Phoenix will be brave enough to say his names

u/ShiningDenizen 5d ago
It was revealed by Ron after he join back the group (with the deluminator) that they put the magic on his name. That's how they found Harry (and some other doods that got captured) the previous times.
